At the MTV Music Awards, stars from around the world paid tribute to Liam Payne, the former One Direction member who tragically died at 31.

Host Rita Ora, fighting back tears, honoured Payne, describing him as having “the biggest heart” and being “the first person to offer help in any way he could.” She shared that he “brought so much joy to every room he walked into,” leaving a lasting impact on those around him.

Payne died on October 16 after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Following his death, three individuals have been charged: a person close to him, a hotel employee, and a suspected drug dealer.

Argentinian prosecutors accused them of “abandonment of a person followed by death” and “supply and facilitation of narcotics.”

Authorities reported that Payne was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time, and a post-mortem examination confirmed that he died instantly from multiple traumas and haemorrhaging.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Argentina continues to investigate, officially labelling the case as an “inconclusive death.”

He then introduces Queen Latifah, who voices Manny’s wife, Ellie, before announcing the return of the beloved characters. John Leguizamo, who voices Sid the sloth, also makes an appearance, teasing, “The herd is back baby.”

Alongside Romano, Latifah, and Leguizamo, Denis Leary (Diego the sabre-toothed tiger) and Simon Pegg (weasel Buck) are set to return for the sixth film. The new installment will follow the survival of Manny and his friends during the early Ice Age.

The last film in the series, Ice Age: Collision Course, was released in 2016. Disney has confirmed the new movie is currently in production, though a release date has yet to be announced.
