Richest people in Malta live in Sliema, Swieqi and Naxxar

According to information tabled in parliament by Finance Minister Clyde Caruana, the richest people living in Malta reside in Sliema, Swieqi and Naxxar. 

Tax declarations for 2021 show that a total of 4,900 people declared an income of over €100,000 a year in 2021. 

Sliema topped the list with the most individuals, with 526 declaring over the amount. Swieqi followed suit at 354 residents and Naxxar placed third with 330 individuals. 

On the other hand, only two people declared over €100,000 or more in Senglea and Għasri in 2021. 

Minister Clyde Caruana was responding to a parliamentary question made by PN MP Jerome Caruana Cilia.

Following a data request made to the Malta Police Force by Malta Daily, it was revealed that there were a total of 581 traffic accident victims reported between January 1st and May 21st 2023.

The month-by-month breakdown exhibited an increase in accident victims between January and April. A total of 106 traffic accident victims were reported in January 2023, with one individual sustaining fatal injuries, 28 others sustaining grievous injuries and 77 sustaining slight injuries.

In February 2023, two people sustained fatal injuries, 33 others sustained grievous injuries and 71 individuals sustained slight injuries, amounting to a total of 106.

March saw a total of 137 victim reports, with zero accidents resulting in fatal injuries, 35 individuals sustaining grievous injuries and 102 with slight injuries, amounting to a total of 137 traffic accident victims.

The following month of April also had no fatal accidents but an increase in individuals sustaining grievous injuries, with the total standing at 46 whilst 101 sustained slight injuries, resulting in a total of 147.

Between 1st and 21st May 2023, four victims lost their lives as a result of traffic accidents, whilst 17 sustained grievous injuries and 64 sustained slight injuries, amounting to a total of 85 traffic accident victims.

Responding to a parliamentary question, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri revealed that 100 same-sex marriages took place in 2022, with six of these in Gozo.

Camilleri also revealed that 1,216 civil marriages were registered in Malta and 68 in Gozo. The question was tabled by Nationalist MP Ivan Bartolo. 

Same sex marriage was legalised in Malta in 2017, making the country the 15th nation in Europe and the 25th world-wide to legalise it at the time.

This comes as Malta continues to place 1st in the ILGA Rainbow Map and Index for 8th consecutive years and is set to hold the EuroPride in Valletta this year.

Malta women's basketball team show off half way court shots

As the Games of the Small States of Europe get closer and closer, the coach of Malta’s women’s national team shows off a couple of half way court shots as the excitement ramps up.

Coach Angela Adamoli shared a few stories on social media of players securing the net from the middle of the court and the general atmosphere and support between the athletes.

The team seems ready to show what they are truly made of before the foreign competitors face them on the court. 

For the two team sports, Basketball and Rugby 7s, a provisional squad has been selected, with the final squads being announced closer to the games.
