Transport Malta halt car lease deal with Princess Operations Limited

Transport Malta halt car lease deal with Princess Operations Limited

It was revealed by Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi that Transport Malta returned the 38 low emissions vehicles to Princess Operations Limited as part of a tender won in 2020.

Princess Operations Limited, which is owned by Christian Borg, won a tender on 31st of July 2020 for the leasing of these same vehicles as well as one cargo van and two self-drive vans.

MP Azzopardi revealed Friday morning that he had attended a meeting at the FCID where he discussed and provided proof of what he alleged in parliament last Wednesday. Azzopardi claimed that a racket of high-level officials at TM and LESA helped Borg evade traffic fines incurred by people who leased cars from him.

He went on to say that he provided the FCID a recording of Borg mentioning his friendship with current prime minister Robert Abela. Claiming he had a 50-minute meeting at FCID during which he was asked to provide all the details, he gave them all the names of those he was aware of that were included in the racket.

He provided them with details about the unexplained wealth of these people. He informed them that a person in the fine uplifting racket was calling people and asking them to cancel all the messages. Till Friday, he was not contacted by LESA and Transport Malta.

Azzopardi said that the racket involves hundreds of cars for at least a five year period and believes that more people are involved. Newsroom MaltaToday inquired about Net TV’s story on Jason Farrugia, a person of trust employed within Carmelo Abela’s ministry.

Azzopardi said that Farrugia has been a member of the police corps in 2015 but was then employed as head of customer care of Konrad Mizzi’s former ministry. Azzopardi said that Abela does not know what his consultant is doing as Farrugia was retained on government payroll after his minister resigned. ‘We should know why he is employed within the ministry and what type of work he is doing.’

Speaking about the same case, PN chief spokesperson Peter Agius said the PN believes citizens have the right to know what is happening in the country. Politicians have to address their most concerning issues said Agius, with the allegations made against a person very close to the Prime Minister being very serious.

‘Citizens pay their fines while over here we are speaking of €3 million in lifted fines by LESA and Transport Malta’ he added.
