Malta one of UK’s prime candidates for green list

Malta one of UK’s prime candidates for green list
Jun 1 2021 Share

Two UK media houses, the Independent and The Express, have reported that Malta has the potential to make it onto the country’s green list in the upcoming review on June 3rd. Malta joins the ranks alongside Balearic Islands of Spain, Finland, Fiji, The Cayman Islands, Rhodes and a list of other countries as potentially opening up to British tourists. Making it onto the green list means that British residents returning from Malta will not be required to quarantine, but must take a PCR test within first two days of arrival.

With the decision set to take place on 3rd June, the measures will come into full effect on 10th June. Being left out of the original batch of countries for the UK’s green list came as a surprise to many Maltese. But the achievement of herd immunity and the successful vaccination rollout could very well change that situation, prompting the UK to add Malta on the green list. The UK is currently combatting a third wave of COVID-19 from kicking off, with experts warning that the reopening plan set by Boris Johnson could be in jeopardy.
