Adrian Delia slams claims he is running for European Parliament in 2024

Adrian Delia slams claims he is running for European Parliament in 2024
Jun 8 2022 Share

Former Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia has come out against the claims that he may be exploring a bid for the European Parliament elections in 2024.

Times of Malta stated in an article that, through sources within the party, it was revealed Delia had been informally approached by a member of party leadership to discuss his possible run for a place in Brussels.

Taking to Facebook however, Delia said that ‘without entering any controversies, I want to clarify that no one from the party approached me to contest the European Parliament election. Nor is it something that I have considered doing from my own end.’

The article claimed that Delia is weighing his options and has ‘discussed the possibility with those close to him in recent weeks.’

A PN spokesperson also told Times of Malta that the suggestion was just ‘based on rumours at this point.’

Another source told TOM that it is early to say who will be on the party ticket for the 2024 race. However, Delia’s name was allegedly among those being considered internally.

Uber officially available in Malta as of today

Uber officially available in Malta as of today
Jun 8 2022 Share

As of today, Uber is available in Malta, giving the opportunity to local and international users of the app to have a new option to move safely and comfortably around the island.

Thanks to a partnership with Alf Mizzi and Sons, the famous UberX service, along with Uber XL and Uber Comfort, available in many cities in the Mediterranean area, in Europe and worldwide, are now available for all customers in the Maltese islands. The arrival of Uber in Malta represents a further mobility opportunity for users and driver partners and will add value to the entire transport system in the islands.

Although the service was not present, during 2021 the app was opened 10K times to request a ride in Malta (80K in 2019) reaching peaks during summer time linked to the tourist season. “Our data shows that there is a strong demand for Uber in Malta, especially during the tourist season. For this reason we decided to launch the app in the country and we are happy to do it with a partner like Alf Mizzi and Sons. Our goal is to bring value to the whole transportation system in the islands, to be absolutely compliant with the local regulations and to allow people to travel reliably and safely thanks to our application” – said an Uber spokesperson.

Passengers will be able to benefit from all the features of UberX, such as the possibility of obtaining information about the driver, the model of the car and knowing the fare in advance, dividing the cost of the journey, viewing the route of their journey and, thanks to the anonymization system, passengers and drivers will be able to get in touch by phone or chat without sharing their phone number. In terms of safety, passengers will have the possibility of accessing the Uber safety toolkit and obtaining assistance in case of need. In addition, Uber XL will offer the opportunity to up to 8 passengers to travel together; Uber Comfort, finally, will offer a more comfortable ride with a more high end vehicle and extra leg room.

Drivers working with the Uber app will have access to the partner protection program, developed thanks to a partnership between Uber and Allianz. The coverage includes various compensation payments for loss of income in case of on-trip accidents, injury, or hospitalisations. In addition, active Uber driver partners also enjoy significant off-trip benefits, for example paid sick leave for up to 15 days, maternity and paternity payments. At the launch Uber will offer some incentives both to drivers and riders.

Drivers who decide to sign up through the app will benefit from a specific driver referral program and discounts on the service fee. For riders, Uber will develop specific promos both for already existing users of the app and for new users. During launch week, new users will be offered 5 rides at 50% off by using the promo code: UBERMALTA Accessing UberX is very simple: – Open the Uber app – Choose a destination – Find out the final price in advance and confirm the ride – Enjoy your trip and when it’s time to go home, follow the same procedure.

Uber’s mission is to create opportunity through movement. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get access to a ride at the touch of a button? More than 30 billion trips later, we’re building products to get people closer to where they want to be. By changing how people, food, and things move through cities, Uber is a platform that opens up the world to new possibilities.
