In today’s competitive working environment, finding the right job may seem like one of the most daunting tasks in the world but thanks to HiringHub, that may be a thing of the past.

Simply put, HiringHub is a virtual recruitment event for employers and jobseekers organised by Jobsplus, Malta’s National Employment Agency. This event aspires to simplify the seemingly never-ending process of trying to secure a job, bringing together employers and future employees from all walks of life.

The first edition is open to people residing in Malta and EU Nationals living abroad and it will include roles in three main sectors; Retail, Manufacturing and Administration Services. Further information about the exhibiting companies and roles available will be published on the Jobsplus website. Those looking for a job are invited to register and will be sent a confirmation of participation, along with a Zoom link to join the event on the day.

The event will showcase vacancies for all academic types from entry level to management and everything in between. The virtual event will allow locals and EU nationals living abroad to get the opportunity to find their desired place of work from the comfort of their own desk.

Animal Commissioner sparks support and outrage with cow milk post

Posting on World Milk Day, the Office of the Commissioner for Animal Welfare posted a photo of cow’s udders producing milk for the industry.

The caption sparked considerable outrage, but also support, due to the message the animal commissioner wished to argue for. The post outlined how, like humans, cows do not produce milk unless they have just given birth.

The post highlighted how cows are forcefully and artificially impregnated every year to keep them producing milk. Their young are also immediately separated from their mother and fed formula whilst the mother continues to produce milk.

The milk however is taken away and sold to consumers. ‘This cycle is repeated every year and only ends with the cow’s slaughter’ the post ended, with hashtags urging people to go plant based and cruelty free.

The post caught the attention of many, with members of the industry calling the claims ‘sensational’ and ‘disappointment.’ The post was accused of intentionally misleading the public, with some saying that local farmers under employment did everything to keep the conditions of the cows healthy and humane.

On the other side of the coin, many commended the post for laying out the truth behind the industry’s practices. A topic which has very often seen polarising views, the post re-ignited the issue on a national scale.

Three last dogs of late owner of 80 pets find new home at sanctuary

After the sad passing of Austin Borg was announced earlier this week, The Island Sanctuary revealed that the remaining three dogs raised by the man have found safe shelter.

The popular animal shelter welcomed the three new admissions Katrika, Fleur and Glory. The shelter explained how they were happy to have helped as some months ago, he had asked for aid.

The shelter welcomed the first twelve dogs and a fortnight ago, the last three were adopted. A Xarabank video back in 2011 revealed Austin’s story to Malta.

The animal lover had given up electricity to continue to afford to feed his 80 dogs and cats in Birkirkara. Rescuing strays and giving them a forever home, he has given many animals a new chance at life.

The Island Sanctuary has now appealed for donations following his passing to help them continue saving dogs’ lives. They thanked all who did so in Austin’s name as the three canines settle into their new abode.

Sun-bed overload of Comino will end says Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo

Following a resurfacing issue of Comino’s sun-bed overload and overall beachside abuse, Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo has come out and said that this will not continue.

Bartolo has said that a crackdown will have to be undertaken if people are not free to lay down a towel wherever they wish.

The popular destination has raised concerns for several years, with Moviment Graffiti very recently highlighting the issue once again. Bartolo said that on Blue Lagoon, he expects that whoever goes and places a towel without renting can do so.

Bartolo said that the problem will be addressed this summer as it is just around the corner. Concerns were further raised last year by Times of Malta, after a video about the problem went viral.

Moviment Graffiti once again raised the problem today, demanding that the government take action to return the Blue Lagoon to the public. It had previously described the situation as an overcrowded, dirty and noisy hell.
