The Malta Ranger Unit issued a video raising a warning over youth ‘showing little respect for the environment’ at Golden bay.
During the weekends, the rangers explained, the bay is closely monitored and this year a large number of teenagers are being reported going down on weekends and causing damage to the environment and property.
‘Although spoken to by the Rangers and informed of the regulations on site, they proceed to litter and be a nuisance to other beach goers’, the Rangers said. ‘This is not acceptable.’
‘Unfortunately the beach falls under Qawra Police, who many times are very busy during weekends and the offenders leave the site before their Officers arrive.’
‘The S.L 549.83 (Majjistral Park site regulations) stipulates fines between €400 up to €50,000. We urge parents to speak to their children and to be aware that this is occurring. Some of the offenders are as young as 14-15 years old and are seen intoxicated at the beach.’
Rangers continue to monitor the area in peak hours, reporting breaches to police and authorities.
