Paris lockdown, France fearing third wave

Mar 19 2021 Share

France’s capital city is looking at a month lockdown starting Friday at midnight as the country is fearing a third wave of COVID-19. Given the rise of variants of the virus, approximately 21 million people spread out over 16 areas of France will be placed under the new measures. Prime Minister Jean Castex stated that the lockdown will not be as strict as the previous, allowing people to exercise outdoors.

35,000 new infections have been recorded in France within the last 24 hours, making a third wave increasingly likely. 1,200 people are under intensive care, more than the second wave’s peak in November, claimed France’s Health Minister. Non-essentials have closed but schools remain open, with those in affected areas filling in forms explaining why they leave home.
