Over 126,000 Square Metres of Land Returned for Agricultural Use

Apr 17 2025 Share

As promised by the Government, a piece of land measuring around 126,000 square metres, equivalent to about 18 football fields, that had previously been designated for industrial development in Bulebel, will remain agricultural land. This reflects the Government’s commitment, as stated in the Malta 2050 Vision, to strike a balance between commercial interests and the country’s natural heritage.

Through an agreement signed this morning, this land was officially transferred from INDIS to the Lands Authority, in the presence of the Minister for Lands and Implementation of the Electoral Manifesto, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, and the Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri.

Thanks to this important agreement, a land area of 126,065 square metres, equivalent to more than 18 football fields, will remain available to Maltese farmers to continue producing local products. The agreement stipulates that this land, previously managed by INDIS, is being returned to the Lands Authority to remain designated for agricultural use. In addition to its agricultural value, this land also holds cultural significance due to the possibility of archaeological remains in the area. The agreement was reached through full collaboration between the two Ministries to ensure a better future for Malta’s land and environment.

Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said that this move is a testament to the Government’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding Malta’s rural character and strengthening food security for future generations. “The Lands Authority will retain this land for agricultural purposes. Although it had been earmarked for industrial use, the agreement between INDIS and the Lands Authority ensures it will remain agricultural,” said Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi.

In comments made by the Deputy Mayor of the Żejtun Local Council, Raymond Caruana, he said, “A promise made to the people of Żejtun has now become a reality. Thanks to this land transfer, Żejtun farmers can continue working these lands for agricultural purposes. Today, we are seeing the fruits of years of hard work.”

This land in Bulebel will now be managed by the Lands Authority to ensure the continuation of agricultural production, with fair rent that reflects today’s economic realities.

Also present for the signing of the agreement were representatives from the Lands Authority and Jean Pierre Attard, CEO of INDIS Malta.

Athletic Bilbao vs Rangers

📍 Estadio de San Mamés, 9pm
🟰 Aggregate: 0-0

After a heroic 10-man performance at Ibrox, Rangers head to Bilbao knowing only a win will do. The hosts remain perfect at home in this year’s Europa League, but have never progressed after drawing a first leg in Europe. Rangers, unbeaten in their last seven away games, could be poised for another Spanish upset.

💡 Top Bet Builder picks:

  • Both teams to score
  • Over 3.5 cards
  • Ianis Hagi to assist

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham Hotspur

📍 Deutsche Bank Park, 9pm
🟰 Aggregate: 1-1

Frankfurt are Europa League specialists — unbeaten at home and coming off a big weekend win. Meanwhile, Spurs, who are struggling domestically, must win here to rescue their season and perhaps save Postecoglou’s job.

💡 Top Bet Builder picks:

  • Frankfurt to qualify
  • Pedro Porro 1+ shot on target
  • Over 8.5 corners

🔵 Lazio vs Bodo/Glimt

📍 Stadio Olimpico, 9pm
🔻 Aggregate: 0-2 (Bodo/Glimt lead)

Bodo/Glimt are on the brink of history after a dominant first-leg win, but Lazio are unbeaten in their last 13 home games in this competition. The Italian side has never overturned a two-goal first-leg deficit — could this be their moment?

💡 Top Bet Builder picks:

  • Lazio to win
  • Both teams to score
  • Ulrik Saltnes to be carded

🔴 Manchester United vs Lyon

📍 Old Trafford, 9pm
🟰 Aggregate: 2-2

With their Premier League season in freefall, Manchester United have all their hopes pinned on Europa League success. Lyon, unbeaten in 12 away games in Europe, are no pushovers — and a tight, high-scoring contest could be on the cards.

💡 Top Bet Builder picks:

  • Over 2.5 goals
  • Garnacho to score
  • Lyon over 4.5 corners
