Puppies rescued from Mellieha fires seeking forever homes

Two puppies were rescued by members of the Civil Protection Department who, yesterday, were working tirelessly to put out fires which broke out in Mellieha. Photos of the adorable pups were posted on social media by the group ‘Rescued is my favourite breed’, aiming to find families to foster and adopt the abandoned dogs. The Department of Animal Welfare treated them for the smoke they inhaled whilst being trapped in the fire, with both of them currently in good health.

The dogs cuddled up next to the firemen, arriving at the Xemxija fire-station and making themselves comfortable. Anyone who wishes to foster or adopt the dogs is being encouraged to contact the organisation and give them a forever home.

Rosianne Cutajar to keep parliament seat despite commissioner report

Posting to her Facebook page, Labour MP Rosianne Cutajar expressed how shocked she was by the report filed by the Standards Commissioner on her alleged multi-million euro property deal links. Criticising commissioner George Hyzler for believing several other people’s testimonies and not her own, Cutajar declared she will retain her parliamentary seat in parliament as she awaits a decision, vowing to seek reelection in the forthcoming general election.

The Commissioner stated in his findings, which were revealed by Times of Malta, that Cutajar should be investigated by the tax department over alleged involvement in the property deal which involves Yorgen Fenech. The commissioner concluded that the former junior minister, along with the Labour MP, most likely pocketed a €46,5000 brokerage payment.

Cutajar claimed she answered Hyzler’s questions truthfully and was allegedly the only person to produce the requested documents. Cutajar expressed how she feels that the commissioner did not do justice with her and the truth.

£32,000 raised for crying German football fan following online abuse

A young German girl was subject to online abuse after being spotted crying during the Euro 2020 games following Germany’s loss against England. Former footballer Stan Collymore shared screenshots of how certain Twitter users directed abuse at the girl, passing comments referencing Germany’s Nazi past. A man from South Wales, Joel Hughes, told Sky News how he decided to set up a JustGiving fundraiser page to raise £500 for the crying girl.

The aim was to show how not everyone in the UK is horrible and that they care. In just four days, the page raised £32,667 in donations. Hughes put out a tweet in an effort to try and contact the family, and with some help, there seems to be a lead. The plan, which has since been taken over by a team at JustGiving, is to open discussion to donate all the earnings to charity.

WATCH: Dolphins treat lucky beachgoers at Xwejni Bay

A pod of dolphins was spotted off Xwejni Bay as people enjoyed the beach together at around 20:45 yesterday. Fins could be seen surfacing and submerging back into the water as one looked out onto the sublime horizon.

Located in the Northern part of Gozo, Xwejni Bay was treated to one of the rarest sights this year.

Sights of dolphins so close to the bay have been a more frequent occurrence ever since the pandemic hit. Some attributed it to the lack of noise pollution around beaches. Whatever the case may be, these beachgoers enjoyed a truly summery experience.
