May 17 2024 Share

On Thursday evening, protestors walked down the streets of Valletta demanding for ‘justice’ and for a ‘cleaner’ Malta in the wake of the Vitals inquiry and accusations of former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and various other Labour government officials.

The protest was organized by Repubblika and was promoted under the banner Ningħaqdu għal-Malta Nadifa (uniting for a clean Malta).

It was also backed by 21 other NGOs including KSU, KNZ and Moviment Graffitti and included a march which started from the Parliament building and ended directly in front of the law courts.

Most of the protestors were chanting several chants including “Daphne was right”, “Send the thieves to Kordin” and “You robbed us, we want our Malta back”.

There were 8 speakers in total; Megan Mallia (Daphne Caruana Galizia’s niece); Repubblika and Occupy Justice activist Pia Zammit; Norman Vella; KNŻ National Officer Sarah Xuereb; Moviment Graffitti’s Robert Louis Fenech; Repubblika President Vicki Ann Cremona; KSU President Luke Bonanno; and Repubblika’s honorary President, Robert Aquilina.

Robert Aquilina, Republikka’s honorary president stated that the people were finally facing a “moment of truth” in Malta’s history ahead of Joseph Muscat’s pending court case.

Stellar Line Up Of Windsurfers To Embark On Foiling 100 Challenge

May 17 2024 Share

A stellar line up of elite windsurfers is set to embark on the Foiling 100 Challenge – 100 being the distance in kilometres from Malta to Ragusa. This will be the longest single stage windfoil race in the world, and promises to push the boundaries of windsurfing athleticism and showcase the cutting-edge technology of foiling boards.

Malta Young Sailors Club Commodore Mr Christian Bajada explained that the organizing team of the Malta Young Sailors Club boasts extensive experience in hosting international events such as Euromed and various sailing clinics throughout the year – this is in addition to the local ranking events sanctioned by the Malta Sailing Federation.

The Club is bolstered by athletes with competitive experience in Olympic and World Championship arenas, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in event execution who have been working tirelessly towards this event.

The stellar line up of athletes include Jean Paul Fleri Soler who at 59 is the oldest and most experienced athlete on the team even having Olympic experience. The Miggiani siblings, Karl (26) and Shaun (22) and Thomas Zammit Tabona (30) are the remaining Maltese squad members whilst the other three are German Nico Prien, Polish Kamil Manowiecki and Dutch Bob van de Burgt

Principal Race Officer Andrew Wilson, who competed in windsurfing in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta explained the programme of events for the weekend.  The organising team has allocated thre days for the event to take place. Due to the ever changing weather conditions currently being experienced it was decided that the event will take Saturday and Sunday. The weather scenario is still fluid thus the organising team  might even push to race from Ragusa to Malta on Sunday. This potential change will not effect initial plans to race a distance of 100kms.
