Yesterday, for world health day an investment plan in Longevity Medicine Clinics was announced in a press release in Parliament from the Ministry for Health and Active aging, Jo Etienne Abela.

Longevity Medicine, medicine that instead of focusing on the treatment of illness, aims to prevent or delay age-related diseases.

This was announced during a conference held in Parliament, in collaboration with the Speaker of the House, during which a number of health sector professionals shared their thoughts on the physical and mental health of mothers and babies, as well as other illnesses such as cancer.

Jo Etienne Abela emphasised the importance of individuals accepting screening invitations, such as those for bowel cancer, in order to enable early diagnosis.

He stated that the government is working to continue lowering the age at which individuals receive such invitations.

“On this World Health Day, my thoughts are with those who are unwell, especially cancer patients and their loved ones. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all professionals for their dedication and the work they carry out each day, which has enabled Malta to achieve the best oncology results in Europe. We have every reason to be truly proud,” the minister concluded.

Vision 2050 Must Translate Into Tangible Action, PN Says

Vision 2050 Must Translate Into Tangible Action, PN Says

In a joint statement issued by the Nationalist Party and PN MPs Ivan J. Bartolo, Jerome Caruana Cilia, and Graham Bencini, the Opposition welcomed the launch of Malta’s Vision 2050 but stressed that the plan must now lead to real, measurable results that improve people’s lives.

“For too long, the government has ignored the growing concerns voiced by citizens, businesses, consumers, and the Opposition itself. We are now seeing the consequences of years of inaction,” the statement said.

While Vision 2050 is a step forward, the PN criticised the government’s track record of offering long-term plans without delivering on them. They urged immediate action on key issues such as the cost of living, overpopulation, infrastructure challenges in health and education, traffic congestion, weak governance, skills shortages, and reputational risks.

The PN called for urgent reforms in education, stronger governance, and targeted investment in infrastructure to support growth and attract investment.

The Opposition also welcomed the inclusion of intermediate targets within the Vision, saying they are crucial to tracking progress.

“The time for promises is over. It’s time for action. We remain open to cross-party collaboration to ensure Malta’s future is truly sustainable and prosperous,” the PN concluded.
