Prime Minister Robert Abela attended the final court session of Judge Toni Abela, who has reached retirement age after many years of service with great integrity on the judiciary bench. Throughout his career, Judge Abela used his knowledge and experience to faithfully serve the Republic of Malta.
Judge Toni Abela was among the first lawyers in Malta’s history to be appointed as judges after successfully passing the scrutiny of the Committee on Judicial Appointments. This was following reforms that changed the method of appointing judges, removing the power from the Government to directly appoint them.
Prime Minister Abela noted that Judge Abela always spoke his mind with respect and care, aiming to send a clear message in favour of fairness and justice. Even at his final session today, Judge Abela delivered a message supporting the proper administration of justice.
Prime Minister Abela expressed the State’s gratitude to Judge Toni Abela for his dedication and service.
