Prime Minister Robert Abela calls for European vaccine certificate

In a letter to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela argued that it is time to create a vaccine certificate for European citizens.

Dr. Abela stated that the certificate is a necessary tool for public health, especially in cases of transcontinental travel and may positively contribute to the control of the pandemic at both national and European levels.

The Prime Minister went on to suggest a coordinated approach in terms of travel, which would not hinder individuals’ freedom of movement.

Gudja roundabout to be turned into flyover and tunnels in €18 million project

Infrastructure Malta has started works an an €18 million project in Gudja as Minister Ian Borg announces that the roundabout will be converted into a flyover between Kirkop, Imqabba, Qrendi, Zurrieq and Safi.

The project is expected to be developed over the course of two years and will include two tunnels towards the Freeport and airport.

The project is part financed by the European Union and should create a link between said villages and facilitate access to the airport for all kinds of transport.

Borg went on to state that this ambitious project will reduce pollution and travel time for those travelling to the aforementioned zones and villages and will be a collaborative effort with the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage.

Parliamentary Secretary announces new pavilion for Hibs Basketball Club

Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sports and Voluntary Organisations Clifton Grima has just announced that the 1,338 square metres of land in the Kordin Industrial Zone will be passed on to the Hibernians Basketball Club to be developed into a new basketball pavilion.

Grima revealed that after years of waiting, the land will be converted into a new pavilion, providing well-deserved ancillary services to the Hibernians Basketball Club as part of the government’s investment in sports culture.
