President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono led national commemorations on Saturday morning to honour the victims of the 7 June 1919 uprising.
On that day, riots broke out in Valletta, the capital of Malta, as Maltese civilians protested against the British administration’s handling of post-war hardships.
In a solemn ceremony held at St George’s Square in Valletta, President Spiteri Debono laid a wreath at the Sette Giugno Monument, paying tribute to the four Maltese civilians who lost their lives during the protests over food shortages and colonial rule.
The event formed part of the official remembrance ceremonies organised by Festivals Malta. Attendees included government officials, dignitaries, and members of the armed forces, who gathered to reflect on the events of 1919 and their lasting impact on Maltese national identity.
