President George Vella of Malta welcomed European Parliament President Roberta Metsola at the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta.
President Vella highlighted the European Parliament’s vital role in participatory democracy and its focus on citizen engagement through various initiatives.
He expressed optimism that the upcoming elections would provide EU citizens with increased access to and influence on EU institutions.
Discussions included the European Parliament’s role in addressing regional issues such as enlargement and migration.
President Vella expressed gratitude to Dr. Metsola for her visit and collaboration during his presidency.
In return, President Metsola thanked President Vella for his service to the Maltese and Gozitan people, their discussions, guidance, and cooperation with the European Parliament.
She stressed the significance of the upcoming European Parliament elections in June, urging the people of Malta and Gozo to exercise their right to vote and make their voices heard.
Additionally, President Metsola commended the recent renovations at the Grand Master’s Palace, funded by the EU. She viewed this as another example of the EU’s positive impact on societies, emphasizing its role in preserving culture and promoting heritage.
