Possible short power cuts due to ongoing cable repairs

Enemalta warned on Wednesday morning that short power cuts were possible as engineers and technicians continue to work on fixing damaged underground cables. The damaged caused outages in the central part of Malta late on Tuesday and overnight. The power cuts affected parts of Lija, Mosta, Gharghur, Naxxar and some other localities, starting at around 6 pm.

The power was restored within an hour in some areas as supply sources were shifted between the sub-stations. Some areas however had to endure a long night of heat without air conditioning or fans. Enemalta stated that the damage was caused by temperature fluctuations, yet assured that there is enough supply capacity. It also stated that power was restored shortly after 4 am.

Wembley to welcome around 60,000 fans for Euro semi-finals and final

The Wembley stadium is set to operate at 75% capacity for the Euro 2020 semi-finals and finals. This means it will be raising its crowd capacity to more than 60,000 guests, with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin stating that this is great news as so many fans will be able to watch the finally three matches live. Despite having postponed lifting all restrictions until 19th July amidst a new spike in cases, the UK is allowed the game at Wembley extra crowd capacity under its Events Research Programme.

The stadium’s capacity has been reduced to 22,500 for group fixtures at Euro 2020. This is set to be extended to 45,000 for two knockout games in the last 16 before the semi-finals, meaning 50% of full capacity. Italian prime minister Mario Draghi has called for the final to be moved from England, however, due to the rising COVID-19 cases. The semi-finals are to bend on 6th and 7th July, with the final on 11th July.

Malta 3rd best in terms of global vaccine rollout per 100 people

In new statistics shared by international newsroom The Guardian, Malta has ranked 3rd best in the world for total vaccinations administered per 100 people. Just behind Gibraltar and United Arab Emirates, Malta stands at a rate of 143.01 vaccinations per 100 people with 631,446 total vaccinations and 5,053 latest daily vaccinations (by the time of this article).

Gibraltar stands at 231.42 per 100 persons, with UAE at 147.94. Seychelles follows Malta at 140.0. Malta reached herd immunity on May 24th 2021 as 70% of the adult population received at least the first jab of the vaccine. The rollout is still ongoing globally, with Malta extending its programme to younger ages. Despite this, COVID-19 is still a persistent threat which requires the adherence to now easing health restrictions.

Ever since Malta’s new event measures were announced, organisers across the country have been seeking new ways to change the game and make events interesting, fun and compliant with the island’s current health restrictions.

Meet Malta’s first Liquid Lunch, a seated extravaganza of good food, great music, non-stop drinks and special guest DJs at a number of gorgeous Maltese locations.

So here’s the deal: guests will be able to select the free-flowing cocktails they would like to be served via a poll in the event, where they will also be able to see which venue will be taken over, which local DJs will be playing and what kind of food they will be tantalising their palates with.
