Oct 2 2024 Share

Tonight marks the start of another season of Popolin, the discussion program that, true to its name, covers topics the public is most talking about week after week.

The show, once again hosted by Quinton Scerri, will maintain its signature style, where guests freely discuss and debate their opinions on various subjects featured every Wednesday.

Tonight’s episode will feature an open discussion on suicide, with guests sharing their personal experiences and others addressing the realities they’ve faced, aiming to raise awareness on the issue and, more importantly, address any potential gaps that may exist.

For another year, the program will offer viewers the opportunity to join the conversation. Every week, TVM will open its doors to those interested in participating in the discussions during Popolin.

Those interested can reserve a spot by sending a message to 99912221 or emailing [email protected].

The first episode of Popolin airs tonight at 9:15 p.m. on TVM.

Maltese footballer Kailey Willis has donned the new Venezia FC 24/25 collection for a brand new photoshoot – marking the first collaboration with NOCTA.

For the uninitiated, NOCTA is the Nike sub-label fronted by artist and rapper Drake.

As for Kailey herself, she’s been establishing her presence on international football pitches, joining Italian Serie B side Parma Calcio Women in August. It was confirmed however that she would be spending this upcoming season with Venezia.

Following their successful partnership with Kappa, the new NOCTA influence is evident in bold, modern designs that still honour Venezia’s cultural ties to the city.

The home kit features a sleek black design with golden accents, while the away kit reinterprets the club’s traditional orange and green colors, blending streetwear elements with its classic identity.

While NOCTA didn’t have full creative control due to the quick turnaround, the Pre-Match kit offers a glimpse of the collaboration’s future, showcasing a stronger streetwear influence.

This partnership between NOCTA and Venezia FC signals a shift towards merging football and fashion, with Drake’s brand playing a key role in shaping the club’s evolving aesthetic.

MCAST Lecturers Protest: Groups & Activists Express Support

MCAST Lecturers Protest: Groups & Activists Express Support
Oct 2 2024 Share

Many expressed their solidarity with the demonstrating MCAST lecturers as they continue to fight for an expired collective agreement.

Yesterday, activist group Moviment Graffitti issued its support for the educators, as the Malta Teacher’s Union joined them for the ‘biggest protest that ever took place at MCAST’.

This came after ‘the new MCAST principal, Stephen Vella, showed clearly that he is not ready to continue negotiations with the union and continue with negotiations which took place before him.’

‘It is worrying that a post-secondary and tertiary institution like MCAST is kept hostage by these back-and-forth and directives.’

Issuing a statement was also Swieqi Deputy mayor and former MCAST student Jordan Galea Pace, who had been vocal about these issues before.

‘Although my time at MCAST should be over, I find myself in limbo because I submitted my dissertation late due to an injury in June. I am now waiting for my mark to be released, which means I still don’t know if I’ve graduated. After months of hard work on my dissertation, I’m left in the dark once again.’

‘MCAST has become a cesspit where students are forced to endure constant struggles’, he wrote.

‘I stand in full solidarity with the lecturers who have been disregarded and with the students facing yet another challenging year in this environment.’

Judge Allows Defamation Suit Against Netflix Over ‘Baby Reindeer’

Judge Allows Defamation Suit Against Netflix Over 'Baby Reindeer'
Oct 2 2024 Share

A federal judge in California has ruled that a Scottish woman can continue her defamation lawsuit against Netflix regarding the miniseries “Baby Reindeer,” which stars comedian Richard Gadd. In his ruling, Judge R. Gary Klausner noted that the show presents itself as factual, claiming, “this is a true story,” potentially misleading viewers about the portrayal of Fiona Harvey.

Harvey’s lawsuit stems from Gadd’s depiction of her as a stalker who inundated him with over 40,000 emails and hours of voice messages. She asserts that the show inaccurately portrays her as a twice-convicted criminal who engaged in violent and sexual assaults. Although Netflix argued that the claims about Harvey were “substantially true,” Klausner highlighted significant differences between alleged behaviors and actual criminal convictions.

While Harvey’s defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress claims will proceed, her negligence and right of publicity claims were dismissed. Netflix has stated its intention to vigorously defend Gadd’s right to share his story.
