Political parties stand by receiving donations despite harassment claims

Aug 12 2021 Share

Both the Nationalist Party and the Labour Party have stood by their defence of receiving cash donations after outgoing developers’ lobby chief Sandro Chetcuti stated that political parties consistently approach local entrepreneurs and businesspeople for donations.

Chetcuti was interviewed by Times of Malta on Sunday and, in defence of businesspeople, stated that they are not regularly trying to “compromise politicians with donations” but said that it is quite the contrary.

Chelsea win another European trophy, this time on penalties

Aug 12 2021 Share

Yesterday night, Chelsea beat Spanish side Villareal on penalties to ensure a UEFA Super Cup win. The UEFA Super Cup is a game where the winner of the UEFA Champions League and the winner of the UEFA Europa League play each other for the Super Cup.  Back in 2019 ,Chelsea lost the Super Cup final on penalties, so the fans and players alike must like the feeling of redemption.

The game was quite cagy and never really progressed because of a lot of fouls made by both teams. Chelsea scored first when attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech scored a well worked team goal. The yellow submarines challenged the Chelsea net, until the 73rd minute when striker Gerard Moreno scored a well timed goal.  That goal also made Moreno the all-time leading goal scorer in Villareal history.

The game ended up with penalties. Chelsea surprisingly subbed on keeper Kepa right before the penalties. That decision reaped it benefits as Kepa saved experienced center back Rual Albiol’s penalty, to win the cup

Hamrun announce new signing with incredible video

Aug 12 2021 Share

Yesterday, BOV Premier League champions Hamrun Spartans announced the signing of Malta international Luke Gambin. Luke has never played in Malta as his career has always been based in England. The player has dual nationality since he was born in the UK but has a Maltese family.

Hamrun announced the signing of Luke by placing him in a Michael Jackson inspired video. Whilst dancing to the Michael Jackson song Billy Jean, the player was slowly revealing the Hamrun kit under the black jacket.

This year the winger played with Newport County, where he helped them finish in a playoff position.  In 11 appearances for the team he scored 2 goals and provided 1 assist. However Luke was on loan at Newport from parent club Colchester United. Colchester decided not to extend his contract, so Hamrun swooped in and signed the exciting player.
