Political Leaders Bid Farewell To Francis Zammit Dimech

Local political leaders bid farewell to the late Francis Zammit Dimech, with politicians from across the political parties coming together to honour the man’s contributions.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola called Zammit Dimech ‘one of the good ones. One of the best ones.’

‘One of the best ones. He loved life. He loved politics. He loved Malta. He dedicated his life to public service and he did so with a smile that never faded. For him, being in politics was a calling, about doing his duty.’

‘Francis was a mentor, a shoulder to cry on, with a smile and laugh I always relied on’, continued Metsola.

Prime Minister Robert Abela also paid his condolences, describing him as a man who, till the very end, remained of service to his country.

On his part, Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech thanked Francis from the bottom of his heart for his friendship, his advice, his humane leadership and service.

Hundreds gathered this afternoon at Balluta Church to bid farewell to former PN minister Francis Zammit Dimech.

The procession began with a slow march by a brass band along the Balluta promenade, leading mourners into the church where an orchestra stood in silent tribute.

The ceremony brought together a broad spectrum of attendees. Among them were Prime Minister Robert Abela, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech, Labour’s Parliamentary Secretary Rebecca Buttigieg.

Zammit Dimech’s public service spanned decades, starting with his first election to Parliament in 1987. Known for championing liberal reforms, particularly the modernisation of Malta’s telecommunications sector in the early 1990s, he later held key ministerial roles including Tourism, Environment, Foreign Affairs, and Transport.

Rest in peace, and condolences to all loved ones.

A panel of detectives – Valentina, Amber, Ryan & Josmar – will be encountering singers behind elaborate costumes. Their job will be to guess who the local celebrity artist is behind the mask – they will have to bring their knowledge of the local entertainment scene if they are to succeed!

With Alan Montanaro guiding the detectives as host, The Masked Singer Malta will bring a fresh spin to the local music scene – not to mention a guessing game for all to enjoy.
