X Factor Malta winner Michela Pace has just got married! The Maltese singer, who won the first-ever season of the talent show in 2019, tied the knot with her partner Daniel Farrugia in a joyful ceremony.

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett, has officially inaugurated a significant regeneration project at San Tumas Bay in Marsaskala. Over recent months, Infrastructure Malta, in collaboration with the Tourism Zones Regeneration Agency, has carried out extensive works to revitalise the area, linking Xatt il-Batterija ta’ Rihama with the surrounding beaches and rural roads.

The project prioritises sustainability, safety, and environmental sensitivity while improving accessibility and creating enhanced spaces for families, residents, and visitors alike. A new pathway constructed from innovative, eco-friendly materials now provides better access, complemented by a modernised appearance for the open spaces.

The coastline has been reinforced with natural stone following the removal of unsightly, ageing concrete sections. Additionally, a 100-metre wall has been rebuilt to replace an unstable structure, featuring vibrant artistic elements inspired by the locality’s cultural heritage. This initiative forms part of Infrastructure Malta’s ongoing commitment to improve public access while preserving the nation’s natural and rural heritage.

Minister Bonett expressed his satisfaction with the project’s completion, noting the fresh and beautiful new look San Tumas Bay now boasts. “For many years, this area unfortunately did not receive the attention it deserved. This investment has provided a fresh appearance to the bay, ensuring residents and visitors alike can enjoy a safe and environmentally respectful space.” he said.

Looking ahead, the Minister announced plans to commence further works in other areas of Marsaskala aimed at improving infrastructure and boosting the town’s tourism potential. “The south of Malta holds great potential to offer a quality tourism product. We firmly believe these projects will elevate the stunning natural environment surrounding the area, making it accessible to more people with improved infrastructure.” he concluded.

Steve Ellul, Chief Executive Officer of Infrastructure Malta, added: “This is another project demonstrating how open, natural spaces can be regenerated with respect for our environment and rural heritage. By using sustainable materials and sensitive design, we have created an organised and attractive area that benefits both residents and tourists.”

Almost 2 tonnes of waste was successfully removed from Marsamxett Harbour and its surrounding areas, following another large-scale sea and coastal clean-up held in collaboration with multiple entities and companies.

The clean-up, which brought together numerous dedicated volunteers, forms part of an ongoing effort to safeguard Malta’s marine environment and raise awareness about the scale of underwater waste.

•Tyres: 1,518kg

•Plastic bottles: 213kg

•Metal: 112kg

•Mixed waste: 28.9kg

•Cigarette butts: 1kg

Organisers expressed heartfelt thanks to all those who showed up and gave their time to support this meaningful initiative.

The operation was made possible through a joint effort involving Sostenbilita, the AFM, Ambjent Malta, Clean Malta, Vikings Sailing Club, and Grand Hotel Excelsior.
