Police leaving safety notes on open bags across Maltese beaches

Police leaving safety notes on open bags across Maltese beaches
Aug 31 2021 Share

As part of a crime prevention campaign launched by the Community Police Officers at different beaches last weekend, police beach patrols were leaving little notes stating ‘We noticed your bag was open’. As some beachgoers leave their bags open to jump in and cool off, leaving some valuable items in plain sight, the police have issued little warnings to raise awareness against this practice.

They are to serve as a deterrent to pick-pocketing and other robberies as whereas some people go to the beach to lick up the sun and splash in the water, some take the opportunity to make off with other people’s items. The notes also contain a cheeky little rhetorical question; ‘Are your items on sale?’. This initiative will hopefully minimise beach robberies and safeguard people’s belongings.

Spotify’s all-time streaming record broken by Justin Bieber

Spotify’s all-time streaming record broken by Justin Bieber
Aug 31 2021 Share

Spotify history has just been made by Justin Bieber after he broke the streaming platform’s all-time monthly listener record. Revealed by Chart Data, the pop-star amassed 83.3 million monthly listeners, which is the most any artist has ever earned since Spotify’s launch. The Weeknd trails just behind Bieber with 74.53 million monthly listeners, followed by Ed Sheeran at 72.41 million monthly listeners. Due Lipa is currently leading the female artist rank at 65.5 million monthly listeners, followed by Doja Cat at 60.4 million.

Bieber, now 27, became the youngest solo artist in history to obtain 100 career entries on the Billboard Hot 100 charts last month. He beat Drake who previously held the title after achieving his 100th entry at age 28. Meanwhile, Kanye West is racking up to break the record for most Number 1 albums just this century.

Petition demanding penis for all dragons on Welsh flags gains traction

Petition demanding penis for all dragons on welsh flags gains traction
Aug 31 2021 Share

A campaign has amassed massive support in demanding that the red dragon on the Welsh flag be given a penis. The petition is an official Welsh Government initiative, calling for the mythical beast and national symbol to be able to flash it’s privates on all flags flown on public buildings. As of writing this article, around 623 people have signed the petition and, considering that any petition with more than 50 signatures will be discussed by the Petitions committee, it seems as though the dragon might just get to show off its phallus.

Those in support pointed out how millions of coins featuring the Royal Mint’s Welsh dragon had penises added to them. These were added to the £1 and £20 coins by coin artists near Cardiff. The petition was initiated by artist Rhyn Williams who researched ancient depictions of the Welsh dragon. Were the petition to reach 10,000 signatures, it would be considered for full debate in Cardiff Bay in the Welsh Assembly headquarters. Williams questioned why the dragon was ‘made a eunuch’ in the first place, attributing it to either obscenity, politics or plain forgetfulness.

PN proposes more PE lessons in bid to fight obesity

PN proposes more PE lessons in bid to fight obesity
Aug 31 2021 Share

As part of their strategy to battle obesity, the Nationalist Party stated how physical education is crucial and should thus be given a priority and an overall boost. Addressing a press conference, the Nationalist Party also stated that a government led by Bernard Grech would work on a national study on the existing obesity strategy. The press conference, addressed by education spokesperson Clyde Puli and candidate Justin Schembri, revealed how the country is still facing a problem with obesity, being a major public health challenge and in how it is viewed in the Mediterranean.

The PN urged the Sport Promotion Unit to be strengthened, with each school having its own physical education teachers operating for a full week. The Opposition promises to bring a radical change in thought when it comes to this subject by involving and consulting all stakeholders, from teachers to parents to students themselves. The PN’s belief that the schools can be the catalysts to overcoming this crisis is backed by the promotion of healthier diets and monitoring of such practices.
