Police Chief says officer who shot Duante Wright was trying to tase him

Daunte Wright, 26, was shot and killed by a police officer in the US city of Brooklyn Centre in Minnesota. Police Chief Tim Gannon however has issued a statement saying that the police officer was instead trying to use her taser when she mistakenly drew her gun. Wright’s death has sparked several protests, leading to a curfew being declared. Crowds however ignored the curfew and gathered for a second night outside the police headquarters.

Daunte was pulled over on Sunday for traffic violation and a struggle ensued after he tried to get back into the car. Wright is seen getting into his car and drive away but crashed due to being fatally wounded. The officer has been placed on administrative leave with Brooklyn Centre Mayor Mike Elliott stating that he would make sure justice is done for Daunte Wright.

The Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin and Suite Life of Zack and Cody actress Brenda Song have just announced that their first child has been born. The couple are overjoyed to announce the new birth and named their newborn son Dakota. Dakota is an homage to Culkin’s late sister who died in a car crash in 2008.

The couple had met whilst filming the movie Changeland and moved in together eventually with three cats. The couple say they have been practicing and tried to make sure to have the baby at the right moment, but they say its a challenge they are figuring out.

Zurrieq man stabbed after argument suffered grievous injuries

Police were informed yesterday at around 22:30 of an argument which took place in Triq it-Tigrija, Marsa wherein one man was allegedly stabbed. Authorities convened immediately on spot and initial investigations revealed that a 35-year-old man from Zurrieq was stabbed by a 32-year-old man from San Pawl il-Bahar.

A medical team was requested and later transported the man to Mater Dei Hospital for care, where he was certified as having suffered grievous injuries. The search for the aggressor is still underway, as are other investigations related to the case.

Speaking on an episode of Popolin, Chief Executive officer at the Malta Tourism Authority Johann Buttigieg stated that Malta will be welcoming those who were vaccinated with both COVID-19 jab doses by June. There will be a waiting period of 10 days after receiving the second dose, after which tourists may visit Malta by providing proof of vaccination.

Buttigieg added that the Tourism Authority is aiming to reopen internal tourism through hotels and bars, among other facilities, by the 1st of June. These plans match up with the Health Authorities measure easing such as school reopening and an aim to have herd immunity by June due to the efficient vaccination rollout in Malta.
