Sliema Aquatic Sports Club has made history by becoming the first Maltese club to reach the LEN Challenger Cup quarter-finals. This milestone follows the success of the Maltese national team, who reached the same stage last year as Valletta.

Sliema ASC secured their place in the quarters with a commanding 16-5 victory over Swiss side Carouge Natation, which included several top French national players. The win highlights the club’s growing presence in European waterpolo and cements their status as one of the continent’s top teams.

President George Gregory praised the players, saying, “This is a huge achievement for the club and for Maltese sports. It speaks to the dedication and talent of our team.” Coach Giannis Katrouzanakis also noted the importance of the win for the local waterpolo community, particularly for young players who gained valuable experience.

Dino Zammit was the standout performer, scoring five goals, with key contributions from teammates Liam Galea, Andreas Galea, Elijah Schembri, and Daniel Rizzo.

Sliema ASC will face their next challenge in the quarter-finals, scheduled for January and February, as they continue to represent Maltese waterpolo on the European stage.

Taking to social media, AI Malta Vision showed what a bridge built between Tigne, Sliema to Valletta would look like.

The bridge, in this creation, utilises electric cabins to transport people back and forth.

‘Considering the areas of Sliema and Gżira are heavily populated with tourists and the new Manoel Island Project presumably kicking off in few months time, one must think of better connections to arrive from point A to B in order to avoid more chaos on our roads.’
