PN was, is and will remain against abortion says Bernard Grech

PN was, is and will remain against abortion says Bernard Grech

Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech has come out with his clearest declaration against abortion, stating that, for him, it is a closed issue.

No one in favour of abortion will be allowed to form part of, or represent, the PN, he revealed. Appealing to his predecessors’ positions, he made the comments following PN election candidate Emma Portelli Bonnici calling for an end to systematic abuse of women speaking their controversial views.

Bonnici came under fire of several insulting comments for a statement about abortion she never made.

During the press conference, PN health spokesperson Stephen Spiteri was asked whether the PN would include abortion as part of their policy. He responded by saying that this was a subject to be discussed in parliament.

Grech also accused Labour of a false narrative over the PN’s stand on abortion. ‘We are duty bound to be in favour of life’ said Grech.

Grech used an environmental preservation analogy, asking; ‘if we preserve a turtle egg and ensure it is not destroyed, can anyone believe that we won’t preserve the life of a baby that has just been conceived?’

Animal rights activist and local media personality Moira Delia stormed out of TVM programme ‘Insights’ after being accused of lying by zookeeper Chris Borg.

The programme, broadcasted on TVMNews+, discussed zoos in Malta and after a heated argument between the two, the animal rights activist stood and left the studio. Delia was visibly frustrated with her being disallowed the opportunity to talk. The argument revolved around a bear who was allegedly being kept in the zoo with a chain around his neck, with Delia insisting that this was in fact the case while Borg shut down this claim and stated that she is lying.

“I am not a liar. I take my work as seriously as possible and I never have to lie. My only interest is that I act as the voice of the animals.” Delia stated that she left the programme because she is not a liar.

PN candidate calls for the return of village feasts

PN candidate calls for the return of village feasts

Posting to Facebook, PN election candidate Jerome Caruana Cilia asked about the fate of village feasts in a pandemic impacted world.

‘What do those who work on village feasts have less than other sectors?’ he asked, quoting a frequent question he was faced with numerous times.

Despite understanding the challenges, Caruana Cilia argued that the authorities have the resources and experts not to leave feasts between a rock and a hard place.

‘The voluntary work for feasts starts the day after the same feast comes to an end – it never stops.’ The PN candidate asked there be better planning now that most sectors around the island are reopening.

‘I appeal to the authorities not to ignore the hundreds of volunteers working in feasts who are an important component of our Maltese cultural fabric.’

Peppi Azzopardi, who has been advocating for prisoner rights, broke the news this morning on Facebook. ‘Another tragedy in prison?’ Asked the Xarabank host.

Journalists, activists and academics have been vouching for the resignation of prison director Alex Dalli, following the passing of 12 inmates under his watch. This is a developing story.
