PN vows to build motorsport track without destroying land

Opposition leader Bernard Grech stated that the Nationalist Party is determined to give an absolute priority to the sports sector. Grech highlighted motorsport which draws in a lot of passionate practitioners, and stated that the promise to build a new track will be fulfilled. Grech stated that the track will be built without the destruction of any precious land.

Grech also stated that the PN has already identified the potential area as to where this project could take place and will not let any commercial agenda to steal it away and prevent the project form happening. The Opposition Leader said that motorsport practitioners deserve to have a place where to practice this sport as everyone has their own form of passion and relaxation.

PN proposal to treat drug addicted inmates outside prison

PN MP Beppe Fenech Adami is pushing for a reform to treat inmates addicted to drugs outside prison. He pointed out that only 2% of inmates are treated for the addiction outside prison, even though statistics show that the number of addicts far supersedes this. Among a set of nine proposals, the PN is proposing rehabilitation programmes, such as Caritas’ Prison Inmate Programme.

Fenech Adami highlighted that having inmates who finish their sentences as addicts is not rehabilitation. Despite claims that widespread drug use in the prison has been eradicated, the PN, according to Adami, is aiming to retain the prisoners dignity.

The proposals also highlight the overpopulation problem of the prison, stating that the structure should be extended to accommodate inmates in more humane conditions. PN will also be pushing for the repatriating of foreign inmates back to the country of origin.

GO mobile certified as Malta’s fastest mobile network

The company behind Speedtest, Ookla, has verified GO’s mobile network as being the fastest mobile network in Malta. Ookla is the global leader in broadband network measurement, analysis and insight, with CEO and co-founder Doug Suttles stating that winning the prestigious Speedtest award is a significant achievement for the network, considering that communities around the globe ‘all turned to internet connectivity as their primary link to the rest of the world.’

GO’s CEO Nikhil Patil stated that ‘being verified as having the fastest mobile network in Malta is a proud moment for GO and proves that we are on the right track in fulfilling our promise to offer the best possible experience that enables our customers to connect seamlessly to the people they love and the content they enjoy’. Speedtest is data driven, meaning it is based on individual customer-initiated tests thanks to millions of users.

939 fines for COVID-19 restriction breaches over past week

It was revealed by Covid19 Malta that 939 fines were handed out last week (17th to 23rd May) over COVID-19 breaches. Of these 939 fines, 724 were issued to people not wearing masks in public and another 128 were issued to people found in groups larger than four outside.

11 establishments were fined for breaking the respective regulations, with another 2 given for mass events. 9 people were found breaking quarantine restrictions whilst a final 65 were given to those breaking the maximum amount of people allowed in private residences.

Despite acknowledging that the health measures are being eased as the epidemiological situation changes, health authorities remind the public that the pandemic is far from over and that caution and safety are still a big priority.
