PN Reaffirms Support for LGBTIQ+ Rights

Bernard Grech, leader of the Nationalist Party, reinforced his party’s commitment to LGBTIQ+ rights during a meeting with the European Centre-Right LGBT+ Alliance in Parliament. The Alliance is in Malta for its annual meeting, which runs from 7th to 10th November.

The PN has supported LGBTIQ+ inclusivity, with initiatives like the Equal Opportunities Forum (FOIPN), now celebrating its 10th anniversary. FOIPN is a member of the National LGBTIQ+ Consultative Council and regularly works with civil society groups on LGBTIQ+ issues.

Grech was joined by PN Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione and other party members. The European Centre-Right LGBT+ Alliance, part of the European People’s Party, includes conservative and liberal-conservative LGBT groups from across Europe.

Over the next few days, the Alliance will meet with local civil society groups. Helge Ytterøy L’Orange, the Alliance’s president, will address the Nationalist Party General Council tomorrow.

Local Creator Shows ‘What Depression Really Looks Like’

Taking to social media, Maltese creator Yas Pisani shared a video urging for more mental health awareness by showing what ‘depression’ often looks like versus what it is often thought it is.

Yas cried and sobbed during her section ‘what people think depression looks like’, but laughed and smiled to show how people often mentally struggling often hide their pain.

She also highlighted the exhaustion that comes with keeping up appearances and the struggle.

‘People don’t always show that they are suffering, so be kind to one another’, wrote Yas.

New Support Structures for Fishermen Across Malta and Gozo

The Parliamentary Secretariat for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights has announced plans to install new support structures for fishermen at various beaches around Malta and Gozo. This project, led by Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said, will see pillars installed at sites including Marsaskala, San Pawl il-Baħar, Kalkara, Birżebbuġa, Marsaxlokk, and Msida.

These pillars will provide shore-to-ship electricity and water access, allowing fishermen to power freezers directly from the shore. This initiative aims to reduce operational costs by lowering fuel consumption and emissions.

Additionally, new winches are set to be installed at Marsaskala and Ġnejna, with several ice machines positioned at key locations to help fishermen maintain their catch in optimal conditions.

The Secretariat also outlined future initiatives from the 2025 Budget, including a new fishing strategy, vessel restoration schemes, and animal welfare measures. Planned projects involve free neutering services for stray cats, new dog parks and cat cafés, and a Pet Memorial project, as well as efforts to improve animal rescue services and enforce stricter controls against abuse.
