Apr 2 2025 Share

The Nationalist Party has proposed stronger security measures to combat the rising wave of burglaries in various localities, including Swieqi, Madliena, Mosta, San Ġwann, Naxxar, and Mellieħa.

At a press conference held in Swieqi, key party spokespeople, including Shadow Ministers Darren Carabott (Home Affairs and Security), Albert Buttigieg (Family), Paula Mifsud Bonnici (Elderly), and Swieqi Mayor Noel Muscat, called for more security cameras and the establishment of 24/7 police stations to ensure residents feel safe in their homes.

The party also highlighted a 2024 Europol report revealing that criminal networks from Croatia, Georgia, Italy, and Romania are active in Malta, particularly in property-related organised crime. While acknowledging the efforts of police officers working with limited resources, the Nationalist Party urged the government to invest more in both police personnel and resources to improve safety across the country.

4,514 Babies Born In Malta In 2023

Apr 2 2025 Share

During a Parliamentary Questions session, Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela revealed that 4,514 babies were born in Malta in 2023.

The question was asked by fellow Labour Party MP Romilda Baldacchino Zarb, who asked the minister to reveal the number of births in the years 2020,2021,2022 and 2023.

Abela revealed that in 2020 there were 4,522 births, in 2021 4,464 births, in 2022 4,351 births and finally in 2023 4,514 births.

The data reflects a decline in births during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021 and 2022.

However, as life gradually returned to normal, the birth rate in 2023 rebounded to levels similar to 2020, when the pandemic first emerged.
