PN & PL Elect 3 MEPs Each, Results Show

The final leg of the European Parliament election results shows that Malta will have 3 Labour Party & 3 Nationalist Party representatives in Brussels, with a significant drop in the voting gap between both parties.

On the Nationalist Party ticket, Roberta Metsola was the first to be confirmed with a record amount of votes, with Peter Agius confirmed soon after and David Casa being the last PN MEP to be confirmed.

The Labour Party’s Alex Agius Saliba was the first to be confirmed on the red ticket, with Daniel Attard exhibiting a strong showing from the counting hall’s early hours and Thomas Bajada being the last Labour MEP to confirm election.

Taking to social media, statistician Vincent Marmara explained that this year’s indecisive voters remained very high and posed a challenge to make accurate predictions for the election.

Marmara explained that whereas indecisive voters usually start to decrease during a campaign, this year’s indecisive voters remained at around 15 to 18%.

The statistician also explained that whereas the indecisive voters who said they voted for the PN went to vote, many who said they were indecisive and voted for the PL in 2022 either did not go to vote or voted for third parties or independents.

Roberta Metsola Shatters Election Record With 80K+ Votes

Roberta Metsola, the European Parliament President and candidate for this year’s European Parliament election on the Nationalist Party (PN) ticket, has set a new record by securing over 80,000 votes. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 68,782 votes held by Simon Busuttil in the 2009 MEP election.

Metsola’s record-breaking performance has been an earmark  of the 2024 election, showcasing strong support while the PN celebrating their best-ever performance in a European Parliament election. Despite multiple previous survey results suggesting otherwise, a reduced margin of around 7,000 votes PN and the PL has been marked.

The Labour Party’s Electoral Head has provided the following provisional first-count figures:

The most recent information from various sources suggests that the gap between the Nationalist and Labour Party is down to approximately 7,000 votes or a 3% gap between the parties.

According to unofficial sources, PL have claimed 45% of eligible votes while the PN secured 42%, with the remaining 13% being scattered amongst others.

As things stand, indications are that seats will be 3-3, with Roberta Metsola on the PN ticket and Alex Agius Saliba confirmed. The remaining MEPs will be determined depending on vote inheritance.

7,000 dubious votes reportedly remain, with the full result to be revealed at 11PM.
