Aiming for Accountability and Conservation, Nationalist Party Takes Initiative to Safeguard Maltese Environment
The Nationalist Party has launched a public consultation campaign in collaboration with environmental organisations, inviting citizens to contribute their suggestions on improving public administration in environmental matters.
Following this consultation, the party intends to introduce a bill to amend the Constitution, proposing the inclusion of the “Right to the Environment” as a fundamental human right.
Through this inclusive public consultation, the Nationalist Party aims to actively engage with citizens and non-governmental organisations striving for environmental action and accountability. The party’s objectives include:
- Demonstrating a clear and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the Maltese environment.
- Enhancing the quality of life for current and future generations of Maltese citizens.
- Protecting and conserving the air, land, and water resources.
- Preserving biodiversity and ecosystems.
- Introducing greater accountability and responsibility within the government and relevant authorities regarding environmental matters.
- Promoting increased public participation in environmental governance.
- Advocating for environmental education and awareness.
- Supporting sustainable practices to ensure an environment capable of sustaining human society and enabling the full enjoyment of fundamental human rights.
- Strengthening collaboration with other countries to contribute to global environmental protection efforts.
In a press statement, the Nationalist Party emphasises that achieving these goals necessitates substantial changes to existing laws and the establishment of robust tools to ensure their effective implementation.
