PlayStation 2 turns 21-years-old

On 4th March 2000, the world was introduced to PlayStation 2. The console was first sold in Japan and saw the longest life-span of any console. Many saw it as the defining console of what is known as the sixth generation of gaming, which itself saw much innovation in gaming. North America saw the arrival of the console on 26th October, with Europe following in the next month.

The console catalogued over 3,800 games – with iconic revolutionary games such as God of War, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts among many others. It also gave opportunities to people who did not identify as gamers to play through games like Guitar Hero.

Roberta Metsola emphasises support for restaurants and donations

European Parliament representative of Malta Roberta Metsola took to Facebook to emphasise the need for people to support for restaurants whose businesses are to undoubtedly be impacted by the new COVID-19 restrictions. She expressed how for some eateries, take-away is a lifeline. She highlights ordering and supporting local businesses as this will save jobs and livelihoods.

Apart from this, she urges people to tip delivery drivers who will be undertaking most of take-away delivery orders during these times. For restaurants who find themselves with excess foods, she urges them to donate to food banks or charities. Her final message is one of unity as she tells everyone that by working together, the situation can be overcome.

A 118-year-old will carry the Olympic flame in Japan

Kane Tanaka, the world’s oldest living person at 118 of age, will be carrying the torch this May in Japan for the Olympics. Tanaka has survived cancer twice and two global pandemics and will now have the honour of passing the flame through Shime. Her family will be pushing her for most of the 100-meters, finally giving the flame to another person aged 110 years for the final few steps.

Tanaka has prepared a new pair of sneakers for the event, gifted to her from her family. Born in 1903 Tanaka is said to love fizzy drinks and playing maths games every day. The first time the Olympics were held in Tokyo in 1964, Tanaka was 61 years old. Tanaka’s great-granddaughter set up a Twitter account to celebrate Tanaka’s amazing achievement along with her very eventful life.

Chef Sean Gravina disappointed with new measures concerning restaurants

Renowned chef and Ira Losco’s husband, Sean Gravina expressed his disappointment at the new measures which will be effectively closing down restaurants and bars until 11th April 2021. According to Gravina, the high amount of cases is not to be blamed upon these establishments.

He expressed how almost more than half of restaurants cannot offer take-away due to the food they provide on their menu. He emphasised how other countries show that restaurants and other food establishments are not the primary cause since numbers of cases continued to rise despite their closing. He condemns large gatherings and people’s irresponsibility as being the main cause of the pandemic’s continuous effects.
