MIDI plc has denied claims that it is breaking its agreement with the Government over the Manoel Island development.
This comes after a Times of Malta report on 3 June 2025 said the Government was reviewing the contract for possible breaches.
In a statement, MIDI said it is fully following the terms of the agreement it signed with the Government in 2000.
It insisted it is not in default and is still committed to completing the Manoel Island project as approved. The company said the development permit has been officially granted and cannot be appealed.

MIDI also said it is open to any review or checks by the Lands Authority or the Government, and is confident these will show that it is respecting the contract.
The company explained that delays due to permits or archaeological finds are allowed for in the agreement and do not count as breaches. These delays automatically extend the project’s timeframes.
MIDI added that it is willing to work with the Government on any improvements that benefit the public.
The updated plans already dedicate 80% of Manoel Island to public spaces and heritage buildings. The company said it will continue to act responsibly and keep the public informed.
