PL & PN MPs team up for a good cause

PL and PN Members of Parliament have teamed up to raise funds for Puttinu Cares.

The activity took place at the National Sports School in Pembroke.

MPs from both sides of Parliament, collaborated with the Malta Futsal and Malta Netball Association, and played separate games of the sport.

At the end of the event, Puttinu Cares where presented with multiple sport items to be used for an auction.

The items include official signed merchandise of Barcelona, Inter, Tottenham Hotspur and Ireland.

Croatia beat Brazil on penalties to progress to semi final

Croatia have narrowly beaten Brazil with the help of a penalty shootout to reach the World Cup semi final.

The 90 minutes between the two countries was very close with both having chances that they could have scored from. The Croatian defence especially keeper Dominik Livaković shone throughout the two halves saving multiple shots from the Brazilian attackers including talisman Neymar Jr.

The opening goal finally came in the last minute of the first half of extra time when Brazilian superstar and leader Neymar Jr managed to dribble past Livaković and blast the ball in the back of the net. The goal was also important as it was his record equaling goal to join Pele as Brazil’s top goalscorer.

To everyone’s surprise Croatia managed to score an unlikely equalizer late on in the 117th minute to give hope back to every Croatian supporter in the stadium and back home.

The game had to be decided on a penalty shootout and it was Brazil that came up on top.

Croatia will now turn their attention to the semi finals where they will face one of Argentina or Holland.

More exercise & less cars as part of Malta’s sustainable development goals for 2050

Fewer cars, more exercise, less early school-leavers and increased investment on local cultural & creative sectors are among the 42 targets listed in Malta’s Sustainable Development Strategy for 2050.

The document, which was launched by Environment & Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, has been released for public consultation until February 9th 2023 and presents five strategic goals to make Malta more sustainable.

Targets include the introduction of 65,000 electric vehicles by 2030, increasing ICT graduates by 10%, reducing the fraction of the population which doesn’t exercise to below 56% and setting up a new mental health facility. The document also sets a goal reducing the amount of early school-leavers (ages 18-24) by at least 2 per cent.

The document sets five strategic goals; transitioning towards a climate-neutral economy, preserving sustainable urban development and cultural heritage, ensuring health & wellbeing for all, accelerating digital transformation, intelligent mobility & connectivity and achieving social justice & prosperity for all.

Clouds of smoke in Regional Road after cement mixer truck malfunctions

Drivers passing by regional road earlier today spotted a thick cloud of smoke emerging from a cement mixer in the northbound lane.

Stagnating the progression of traffic in that lane, the clouds of smoke began to emerge from what is reported to have been a malfunctioned cement mixer truck.

Civil protection department officials were on site to control the situation on no injuries have been sustained.
