Alex Borg addresses ‘undocumented population’ in Gozo in light of increase

Aug 2 2022 Share

Gozo shadow minister Alex Borg has recently addressed the ‘undocumented population’ in Gozo in a Facebook post.

First he announced that Gozo’s population increased by 25%, a stat which came out in the recent census released by the NSO. He did however raise concerns that this census didn’t reveal the amount of residents living with expired documents or with no documents at all.

He revealed that in the Gozitan prison, there were 12 undocumented people arrested in one day and wondered how many more there still were hiding from police and authorities.

Borg thanked the Gozitan police for their work even though they have limited resources and hoped that more arrests like that can occur on a common basis. He also pleaded to the concerned authorities to start taking more action in this problem. He also appealed to the courts in order not be complacent and not forget about this issue.

Alex Borg ended his post by promising to continue fighting for the safety of the Maltese and Gozitan people.

Jurassic World models on display in Malta to appeal to film-loving tourists

Jurassic World models on display in Malta to appeal to film-loving tourists
Aug 2 2022 Share

In an effort to expand Malta’s efforts in screen tourism, three Jurassic World Dominion models have been strategically placed across Malta to attract tourists and film-lovers near and far.

Screen tourism, or film tourism, is tourism by which a location attracts visitors due to its relevance to a film or television series. For example, some would opt to visit certain places in England & Scotland to see the locations where the Harry Potter film were shot.

Meanwhile in Malta, we have had the same effect with Game of Thrones, with many visiting St. Dominic’s Convent in Rabat, the Gate of Mdina and Fort Ricasoli amongst others for their feature in the iconic series.

The three large-scale models can be found in Valletta’s St. George’s Square, near the Freedom monument in Birgu and close to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieħa, which are the three major locations where the film was shot back in 2020.

Initiatives such as this will definitely be replicated if Malta had to serve as the backdrop for another blockbuster film and this instance has definitely been a success, with tourists have reportedly flocking to the models to capture a few memorable photos.

Have you seen the models yet?
