‘Pirate Politicians’: Bernard Grech Speaks Out On Court Case

'Pirate Politicians': Bernard Grech Speaks Out On Court Case
May 28 2024 Share

Taking to social media, Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech said that the people of Malta deserve better than these ‘pirate politicians’.

‘You deserve better than a government obsessed about defending those who robbed you’.

‘You deserve better than a Prime Minister who has lost so much control that his own supporters went to protest outside of court against his own wishes.’

‘You deserve better than a government so confused with problems it created to address problems you are facing’.

‘You deserve politicians who are there for you and not for themselves. These pirates are politicians. Do not let carry on stealing the money of the people, throwing away Malta’s name and running away with our money and dignity.’

What do you make of Grech’s message?

A beautification project for a recreational space in Mqabba was inaugurated by Minister for Cultural Heritage, Arts, and Local Government Owen Bonnici, Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli, and Mqabba Mayor Grace Marie Zerafa.

The project at Ġnien il-Mentna in Jubilee Square, which cost around €55,000, was partially funded by the ‘Financing Capital Projects – More Beautiful and Healthier Communities’ scheme from the Local Government Division. This scheme aims to provide financial assistance to local councils for various community projects.

Minister Owen Bonnici highlighted that the Ġnien il-Mentna project reflects the commitment of both the government and the local council to enhance the quality of life for residents. The project included resurfacing walls, installing a new lighting system, swings, plants, and a security camera system, making the space safer and more enjoyable for families and strengthening community bonds.

Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli commended the Mqabba Local Council for their initiative in regenerating and beautifying the area. She affirmed the government’s dedication to providing local councils with the necessary resources to carry out projects that meet the changing needs of residents.

Mayor Grace Marie Zerafa emphasized the council’s efforts in applying for funding schemes to benefit the community, particularly children, and improve their quality of life. Several members of the Mqabba local council were also present at the inauguration.

For the first time, the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) will host the Final Four of the Men’s Water Polo Champions League from June 5 to 7 at the National Pool in Tal-Qroqq.

Malta was chosen after the ASA’s application met all the European Aquatics Federation’s requirements, with support from the Maltese Government, SportMalta, and VisitMalta.

Education and Sports Minister Clifton Grima highlighted this achievement as a positive result of the government’s collaboration with sports associations, emphasizing Malta’s professionalism and high-quality sports infrastructure. Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo noted that hosting this international tournament will attract high-quality athletes and visitors, boosting sports tourism and visibility for the Maltese Islands.

The championship, which began in 1963, is the most prestigious competition for European professional water polo clubs. This year’s Final Four features Pro Recco (Italy), Novi Beograd (Serbia), Ferencvaros (Hungary), and Olympiacos (Greece).

A sports village will be set up at the National Pool entrance to enhance the spectator experience, opening at 17:00. The semifinals will take place at 19:00 and 21:00, with the third place match and final on June 7 at the same times.

The event will be broadcast on several international television networks and amplified through social media to reach a wide European audience, with five international broadcasters confirmed.
