PL Deputy Leader Election To Take Place On 13th September

Jul 25 2024 Share

The Labour Party has announced that the election for the role of Deputy Leader will be taking place on the 13th of September.

Other elections for roles within the Party’s administrative body will also be held on the 13th during their General Conference which will start on the 13th of September and end two days after on the 15th.

These elections will be taking place due to the Labour Party losing both of their previous deputy leaders in Chris Fearne and Daniel Micallef. Fearne decided to resign from his post after Magistrate Leonard Caruana decided that there was enough evidence for him to be indicted in the vitals case.

Micallef announced his decision to resign from Deputy Leader after Labour’s disappointing showing at the recent local council and MEP elections.

The General Conference will also include elections for the roles of President, Vice-President, International Secretary, and Organizational Secretary of the party.

Nearly 70% Of All Maltese Adults Use Revolut

Jul 25 2024 Share

In an exclusive interview with Times of Malta, Ignacio Zunzunegui Gómez-Gil, Revolut’s head of growth for Southern Europe, disclosed that 68% of the Maltese adult population—approximately 300,000 people—now use Revolut. He mentioned that the number of Maltese users increased by 23% last year, and in 2024, it grew by another 7%.

The proportion of regular users, who actively use the app rather than just acquiring it, has also risen at the same rate. Ignacio emphasized, “It’s not that we’re just acquiring customers then losing them.”

Deposits via Revolut have surged by an impressive 40%, with more customers spending their money domestically through Revolut.

The interview also revealed a substantial 170% growth in the number of businesses using Revolut this year, indicating significant market expansion in Malta compared to other Southern European nations.

Ignacio highlighted Revolut’s ambition to become “one of the top three entities” in banking across Europe, noting their progression towards a more traditional banking model by introducing loans in certain countries and even mortgages in Ireland.
