Pete Buttigieg to form part of Biden’s cabinet

On his first day after being sworn into office, hearing processes have begun within specialised committees in the Senate in order to thoroughly examine those nominated for President Joe Biden’s Cabinet.

One nominee is Pete Buttigieg, who was nominated Minister of Transport. Buttigieg is an integral part of President Biden’s plan towards building a new infrastructural system.

The suggested plan will cost around $1.3 trillion dollars, for a plan which aims to build structures such as schools, roads as well as bridges.

James Bond – No Time To Die movie delayed again due to COVID-19

Daniel Craig’s final appearance as James Bond has been delayed due to coronavirus disruption along with movies like Ghostbusters and Cinderella.

No Time To Die is now set to be released on the 8th of October 2021 as announced on the official James Bond Twitter and Facebook pages. New releases are being heavily impacted world-over due to cinemas largely remaining closed.

MAM suggests weekend 9PM curfew in hotspot areas as COVID-19 infections increase

The Medical Association of Malta is suggesting a 9 PM weekend-curfew and harsher enforcement in hotspot areas like Bugibba and Paceville areas.

Mater Dei is seeing an influx of patients and doctors are worried that it will soon reach the breaking point. In order to avoid such a situation, it is suggested that a 9 PM weekend curfew (from Friday to Sunday) be enforced in hotspot areas for two weeks.

The curfew is also suggested to be enforced on the two days following Carnival Sunday. Contact tracing has also been very lagging and they claim it to be ineffective.

Prime Minister Robert Abela calls for European vaccine certificate

In a letter to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela argued that it is time to create a vaccine certificate for European citizens.

Dr. Abela stated that the certificate is a necessary tool for public health, especially in cases of transcontinental travel and may positively contribute to the control of the pandemic at both national and European levels.

The Prime Minister went on to suggest a coordinated approach in terms of travel, which would not hinder individuals’ freedom of movement.
