Peppi Azzopardi states Corradino did not allow prisoner to enter rehab prior to suicide

Local media personality and activist Peppi Azzopardi took to social media on Wednesday to state that the administration of Corradino Correctional Facility did not allow a prisoner to enter into a Caritas rehabilitation programme but ‘let her commit suicide’.

The Times of Malta had confirmed that the 29-year-old wanted to follow a Caritas programme but was not allowed to do so due to ‘the current legislation’. The female prisoner had been found unconscious in her prison cell after a suicide attempt only two weeks before dying in hospital on Sunday.

It has been reported that she had a drug problem and was serving a two-year sentence after admission of six counts of fraud and theft back in February.
