Local cab company eCabs is introducing the Women+ option in their app, aimed at enhancing the safety and comfort of female passengers by allowing them to request a female driver for their journey.
The comments were mixed – with many expressing bafflement at why some people found an issue with the initiative.
‘It’s truly baffling to see how any man could find offense in this initiative. It’s not about taking anything away from us men; it’s simply about prioritizing the safety and comfort of women, which let’s face it, it’s long overdue’, one wrote.
Another wrote: ‘Men will never understand what it is like to be sexually threatened especially in a closed car. It is a shame that in 2024 women are still treated as sexual objects. I have a teenage daughter who takes cabs every so often so this initiative is very welcome. Unfortunately one sick driver amongst the many decent drivers can ruin the reputation of many and the life of a woman.’
‘Make it available to choose men too. – I’d always want a man driving my car – so only fair to allow men to have same opportunity’, wrote one.

‘I am aware that a lot of women would feel safer having female drivers, but let’s face it, is this solving the whole problem’, asked another. ‘While I appreciate this gesture, why not investing in ensuring that all your staff are trained and implement an effective zero tolerance policy towards harassment including sexual harassment ? Why not look into your recruitment policy and ensure that all drivers are trustworthy and safe to be with?’
