Pencil Shaped Road Bollards Installed In Mellieha

Edward Camilleri Street in Mellieha has just had unique pencil shaped bollards installed in a busy area frequented by many school children.

‘Following ideas from residents, discussions within the Council, and advice from Transport Malta, we implemented measures to reduce speed and improve safety through the installation of bollards and rumble strips’, explained mayor Gabriel Micallef.

Micallef thanked the contractors for providing the unique type of bollards, installed for the first time in Malta.

24 Year Old Woman At Risk Of Dying After Being Hit By Car

Yesterday, at around 2000hrs, two women aged 34 and 24 years old from Nepal, were transported to Mater Dei Hospital after being injured in a traffic accident in Triq Hompesh, Fgura.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the two women were hit by a Toyota Hilux driven by a 20 year old woman resident of Birzebbuga.

The victims were given preliminary medical aid and transported to Mater Dei. The 24 year old woman was certified as having suffered serious injuries whereas the other victim suffered grievous injuries.

An inquiry has been opened and police are still investigating.

Alejandro Brincat Reportedly Lost Control Of Vehicle, Police Say

The Malta Police Force released the official report for the Monday accident that claimed the life of 25 year old footballer and father of two, Alejandro Brincat.

Reports indicate that the accident took place at around 2120hrs in Triq l-Imdina, H’Attard, when the driver lost control of his vehicle, a Mercedes, and crashed.

The vehicle crashed into a tree and ended up stuck along a metal structure. Teams from the Civil Protection Department and Mater Dei were called on site to help.

Unfortunately, the driver was certified deceased on site. An inquiry has been opened and investigations are ongoing.

20 Persons Found Living Irregularly In Gozo Arrested

In further coordinated inspections by the Malta Police Force and the Detention Agency Service in relation to irregular immigration, 20 persons found to be living in Malta irregularly were arrested on Monday evening.

The persons were found living irregularly in Gozo, with inspections taking place in various localities including Rabat, Marsalforn, Fontana and Xlendi.

The persons hailed from Ghana, Ethiopia, Syria and Nigeria.

The persons were all taken to the detention centre so that the repatriation service can be initiated.
