Peggy, a pug crossed with a Chinese Crested and crowned Britain’s Ugliest Dog in 2023, has charmed her way into Hollywood with a breakthrough role in “Deadpool & Wolverine” as Dogpool, Wade Wilson’s canine sidekick. Ryan Reynolds, actor and producer, was instrumental in casting Peggy, praising her as the perfect animal manifestation of Wade Wilson. At the London premiere, Reynolds introduced Peggy, dressed in her black-and-red costume, to the crowd and humorously highlighted her unique appearance.

Peggy’s owner, Holly Middleton from East Yorkshire, adopted her in 2018 when she was the last pup in her litter. Middleton describes Peggy as “beautiful both inside and out” and embraces her unconventional looks with humor. Peggy’s role in the movie expanded from a minor part to a significant presence, reflecting her growing popularity.

With over 180,000 Instagram followers and her own line of Dogpool stuffed animals, Peggy’s star continues to rise. Reynolds’s affection for Peggy was evident as he praised her extensive training and charm, jokingly comparing her efforts to those of co-star Hugh Jackman. Through a collaboration between Aġenzija Sapport and the Croatian association UNUO, 12 individuals with disabilities participated in the international gastronomy competition Cupi’s Spoon, held in Malta for the second time.

Minister for Inclusion and Voluntary Work Julia Farrugia Portelli and CEO of Aġenzija Sapport Oliver Scicluna attended the event.

Participants, all individuals with disabilities over the age of 18, had the opportunity to showcase their skills in cooking or cocktail preparation, presenting their creations to a jury of three members from the hospitality, sports, and broadcasting sectors. The judges scored based on the preparation process and presentation. The winners will represent Malta in the competition finals in Croatia later this year.

Cupi’s Spoon, an initiative by UNUO, involves representatives traveling across various European countries with a van equipped for individuals with disabilities to prepare their dishes or cocktails. The van tours European countries throughout the year until winners from each country are selected. During their visit to Malta, UNUO President Vedran Habel and Aġenzija Sapport CEO Oliver Scicluna signed an agreement making Aġenzija Sapport the licensed entity to represent UNUO and host the Malta edition of Cupi’s Spoon starting next year.

Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli praised the project, highlighting its role in fostering inclusion. “By providing a platform where everyone can showcase their skills and creativity, we are breaking down barriers and emphasizing that talent knows no limits. This competition offers tools and support to ensure participants can perform to the best of their abilities, reflecting our government’s dedication to making opportunities accessible for all.”

“Empowerment is central to our inclusion strategy, and this project encourages individuals with disabilities to take pride in their abilities and inspire others with their achievements. We also emphasize the importance of self-confidence through this initiative,” the Minister concluded.

At the opening event held at St. George’s Square, Valletta, CEO Oliver Scicluna commended UNUO’s initiative, which provides a space for individuals with disabilities to develop their cooking skills and gain international experience. Mr. Scicluna affirmed Aġenzija Sapport’s commitment to supporting this initiative in Malta, aiming to increase participation and enhance inclusion in this sector while opening new opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The winners representing Malta in Croatia later this year are Hope Brincat, who won the cooking category, and Ryan Magro, who won the cocktail category. The winners will travel to Croatia with the support of Cupi’s Spoon organizers, the UNUO Association. Additionally, part of their trip will include an audience with the Pope in Rome, along with winners from other participating countries.

Margaret Xerri, a person with disabilities who uses Aġenzija Sapport’s services and won the 2023 edition of Cupi’s Spoon in Malta, also attended to offer her congratulations to this year’s competitors.

Taking to social media, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola expressed her support for Neil Agius as he is set to embark on another attempt to break his own record.

‘Spot on from Neil Agius as he has just announced his next attempt for a record-breaking swim around the Maltese islands’, wrote the President.

‘Determined and resolute as never before to swim 160km non-stop. And all of this for a good cause’, she continued.

She commended the swimmer for the inspiration, determination and his ability to unite people.

Scheduled for late September, Agius plans to swim 160 km in approximately 70 hours without stopping or sleeping, covering the entire Maltese archipelago.

If successful, he will break his own record for the longest non-stop, unassisted sea swim. Last year, he had to abandon a similar attempt off Mallorca due to a jellyfish swarm.
