Turtle surfaces dead after being hit by boat

Turtle surfaces dead after being hit by boat
Aug 13 2021 Share

Posting to Facebook, maritime environmental expert Alan Deidun posted photos of a dead loggerhead turtle at Hondoq ir-Rummien. Deidun said that the turtle was possibly hit by a boat or jet ski, resulting in the deadly dent on the sea creature’s shell.

Deidun exclaimed how the sea has become too dangerous for creatures such as marine turtles, as they have to surface at certain points during their coast surveying for nest creation.

The post was met with much anger and sadness at the unfortunate killing, with many expressing how dangerous for sea animals Malta’s waters have become. This news comes just days after a local sea turtle nicknamed Diana was the centre of much local social media attention as it swam in Marsascala.

Are foldable phones the future? Samsung unveils latest Galaxy Z Flip 3

Aug 12 2021 Share

Tech giant Samsung always looks to push the envelope with their technology and the latest foldable device, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, is a testament to that.

The clamshell foldable device was released alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Buds headphones and the devices are bringing sleek modern technology with stylish retro vibes.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a 2640-by-1080-pixel screen which folds in half. Its adaptive display is also optimised for gaming and possesses a smaller 1.9 inch display on the outer side to allow users to check notification without having to open it.

The first-generation model received a fair amount of backlash, primarily for its design where it was compared to a drink coaster, with the third-generation device receiving a design overhaul along with a new metal material for the body and frame.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 has also seen the release of a number of colourful adaptive phone cases which do not only offer a protective layer for the phone but are a fashionable accessory for the commercially-appealing phone.

Send this to someone who should buy this phone.

“I have to bow down to the Health Ministry” – Culture Minister on standing events

Aug 12 2021 Share

On August 5, the Health Authorities announced that they will be postponing the resumption of stand-up events after weeks of anticipation from the local events sector.

In light of this, Culture Minister José Herrera told The Malta Independent that The Ministry for Arts & Culture, together with the Malta Entertainment Industry & Arts Association (MEIA) is “considering other options” beyond the financial packages set up for the local creative industry.

Herrera said that the green light for standing events was not in his hands, going on to share his sympathy and understanding towards the arts and entertainment sector’s current crisis.

The Minister revealed that standing events are ‘obviously’ not his prerogative and he had to bow down to the health ministry, highlighting that Health Minister Chris Fearne and Superintendent for Public Health Charmaine Gauci are the ‘experts’ on such a matter.

Standing events remain on hold at the moment as many artists and event organisers are calling for a more reasonable approach towards the industry which has been suffering most throughout the pandemic.
