Vatican refuses to bless same-sex unions

Mar 16 2021 Share

The Vatican has claimed that it cannot bless same-sex unions, with the statement approved by Pope Francis. The lengthy statement issued on Monday was explained by the Holy See, describing same-sex unions as a choice and sinful, and that they cannot be recognised as ‘objectively ordered’ to God’s plans. The Vatican’s top doctrinal office, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, stated that blessing homosexual unions cannot be considered licit.

The statement added a further comment by claiming that God does not and cannot bless sin, a statement that is sure to disappoint many who identify as LGBTIQ+. Even though Pope Francis frequently welcomed the community has approved the statement. With many European countries legalising same-sex unions, the statement by Vatican still maintains its stance as to not bless the union, even if as individuals, they may be blessed by the Church.
