Parents call for a return to normal school experience for kids

Parents call for a return to normal school experience for kids

The Maltese Association of Parents of State School Students (MAPSSS) issued a statement calling for the return to a normal school experience for their children at school. With well over 80% of the whole population fully vaccinated and the easing of measures being undertaken in various sectors, the association highlighted the necessity of returning to normalcy after two disrupted school years due to the pandemic.

Despite agreeing with the prospect and logic of keeping certain COVID-19 health measures in place, such as masks and social distancing, the association appealed to no longer deny students ‘full educational entitlement.’ This involves art, music, PE, practical field work, etc. Outings were also vouched for, provided that health measures are adhered to. This comes before the release of new protocols by the Education Minister Justyne Caruana, who updated the public on the new health measures for scholastic year 2021/22.

Air Malta announced that it will be replacing the traditional ‘ladies and gentlemen’ greeting with the gender neutral ‘guests’ to promote inclusivity. The airline revealed that ‘diversity and equality are core values at Air Malta, and the airline welcomes all its customers, irrespective of their nationality, race, political ideology, religion and gender.’

David G. Curmi, Air Malta’s executive chairperson stated that their customer-facing staff will be using this gender-neutral language. ‘For an airline with a multicultural clientele, inclusion is a very important value, and we want to express this attitude shift in our language as well.’

Air Malta will be following in the steps of Europe’s largest airline group Lufthansa who also adopted similar gender inclusive terminology, pushing forth in the quest for more inclusivity.

George Russel has had an eventful season. In his last season as a Williams driver, he has managed to get his first ever points and, surprisingly, his first ever podium in what was a very successful first half of the season. He will now hope for more success in his last 9 races with Williams and for a good car next year, albeit the massive regulation changes.
