Paola couple illegally dumping mattress at 4am caught on CCTV

The Paola Local Council posted to Facebook CCTV images showing a couple sneakily leaving a mattress on the side of the street at around 4am. Their exploits were caught on camera, with the Paola Local Council stating that the footage was sent to police for further investigation.

The local council also stated in their post that instead of getting rid of a mattress in the dead of night, people can, and should, call 21664066 in order to have such items picked up by the local council for free. They explained how the CCTV cameras are surveilled by LESA and that this is all the local council can do up to this point.

With mattresses and other such bulk items littered across several areas across Malta, the disposal has become quite a bit of an issue for many residents in many localities.

73% of men would rather die than give up meat

Are you willing to reduce your lifespan by up to 10 years in order to keep eating meat? Well, that is what almost three quarters of men claimed in a study of 1,000 people – revealing how committed to the carnivore diet most men are. The same research also highlighted how both men and women perceived meatier diets to be more masculine at 47%. Commissioned by ‘No Meat May’, a group which encourages people to give up meat for the month, the survey sampled individuals from Australia for the research.

Group co-founder Ryan Alexander pointed out rather shockingly how most men were not convinced of the health benefits of meat free diets despite evidence to the contrary and that they would rather die earlier than give up that juicy steak or delicious hamburger. Even though significant research and evidence piled up shows how eating meat and even other animal products increase risks of cancers, heart diseases, obesity and other ailments, many men were either not aware of the facts, denied them or simply didn’t care.

Bernard Grech hits out at power cuts during scorching heat wave

A statement by Enemalta reveals how damage to its network due to a record demand for electricity supply and ongoing heatwave led to power cuts in several households. The demand for electricity reached a record level of 561MW yesterday, up from Malta’s first 2021 heatwave towards the end of June which registered at 536MW.

July 2019 recorded the previous daily electricity demand record at 510MW, with Enemalta stating that this significant increase, coupled with the scorching temperatures, caused damages to the low-voltage network. Enemalta apologised for the inconveniences, reassuring that the work to reduce the power outage durations is being done.

The Opposition leader Bernard Grech expressed his sentiments on the power-cut situation, stating that ‘in the midst of another heatwave, thousands of Maltese are suffering power cuts everyday and are ending up without access to basic necessities such as fans, air conditioners and appliances’.

The PN leader describes the fact that a government which acts as the best in Europe cannot provide basic necessities such as electricity is shameful. He pitches the Nationalist Party’s promise of seriously investing in a system of production and distribution to ensure that no such power cuts will occur.

Enemalta has stated that €12 million were invested last year, along with €6 million this year, to upgrade the distribution network to meet increased demand.

Sky Brown becomes Britain’s youngest ever Olympic medallist

Today, 13-year-old skateboarder Sky Brown became Britain’s youngest ever Olympic medallist after winning bronze in the women’s park skateboarding final. Sky was only defeated by Japanese duo, Kokona Hiraki and Sakura Yosozumi who are 12 and 19-years-old. The youngest ever Olympic medallist was 10-year-old Greek gymnast Dimitrios Loundras, winning bronze in 1896.

Sky has amassed over 1 million followers on her Instagram page, which is run by her mother. The skateboarder went viral in the UK because of her insane natural talent, so much so that when skateboarding became an Olympic sport many wanted her to go to Tokyo despite her young age. The British Olympic Association took the risk but also took the rewards as Sky won bronze.
