Over €1.4 million collected in annual Dar tal-Providenza fundraiser event

A grand total of €1,445,665 was collected during Dar tal-Providenza’s annual ‘Festa ta’ Ġenerożità’ fundraising event on January 1st.

The funds collected will further contribute to the accommodation and care of of the 115 people with a disability living in the premises whilst also going towards renovation works in Villa Papa Giovanni in Siggiewi.

Dar tal-Providenza director Fr Martin Micallef stated that he hopes that the solidarity shown towards the home on the first day of the year will extend throughout 2023.

The annual telethon welcomed members of the public and eager contributors to their tent set-up in the home’s parking lot after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.

890 vehicles stopped during the New Year ‘roadblocks’

During last night, the Police Force together with the Armed Forces of Malta, carried out traffic controls around Malta and Gozo.

During these controls which were carried out in various localities, 890 vehicles were stopped, where several inspections were carried out regarding traffic regulations and violations of other regulations which include driving without a valid license, driving without a seat belt and driving under the – alcohol influence, among others.

Over 50,000 people took part in the Valletta New Year celebrations

Over 50,000 people welcomed the New Year from Valletta during the national celebrations that were also broadcasted live on national television.

These successful and very popular celebrations happened yesterday, in St. George’s Square after a two-year absence.

Kurt Calleja and Band opened the event followed by The Brass House Unit led by Kevin Abela. This show included some of the most renowned local artists such as, Kevin Paul, Drakard, Brooke, Jasmine, Amanda Marie, Gloriana Arpa Belli, Ludwig Galea, Owen Luellen, Ozzy Lino, Pawlu Borg Bonaci and Tiziana Calleja.

DJ Debrii and DJ Drey also entertained the crowd in what was one of the biggest parties of 2022.

This event was organised by G7 Events with the support of the Valletta Cultural Agency.

These celebrations were hosted by Ron Briffa, Taryn Mamo Cefai, Claire Agius Ordway, and Clint Bajada.

Man allegedly shot in face during an argument in Paola

Police are investigating a shooting, after an argument that took place this morning (10:30am) in a field close to the Addolorata cemetery (Vjal Santa Lucija, Paola).

TVMnews are reporting that the man was hit in the face after being shot by another man.

The victim, a 57 year-old man from Paola was taken to Mater Dei Hospital and was certified to have suffered serious injuries.

Police who arrived on the scene, were wearing bulletproof vests whilst Superintendent Keith Arnaud is also present.

A search for the alleged shooter resulted in two men of 66 and 30 years-old being arrested.

Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo has appointed a Magisterial Enquiry into the case, whilst police investigations are ongoing.
