Remember that pink mystery box that appeared in Valletta’s Triton Square on Monday morning?

Well, it has just been unveiled, and the box was revealed to be a transparent container filled with various types of harmful waste.

It was an environmental statement from @xummiemu.mt, as indicated by the stickers on the box featuring thought-provoking messages.

“An average of 830kg of illegal waste is collected daily from each locality in Malta,” the box poster reads.

The organisation revealed that Malta collects 45 tonnes of litter and illegal waste daily — equivalent to the size of two double-decker buses.

The shocking display aims to ignite conversations about illegal dumping and recycling, encouraging the public to report such activities through the 1718 hotline.

Taking to social media, Andrew Vella, the restaurant owner at Rebekah’s, called out racist behaviour he experienced during one of his shifts.

‘ A group of guests refused service from one of my valued team members simply because of his skin colour. This behaviour goes against everything we stand for at my restaurant.’

‘I want to take this moment to express that I am immensely proud of every member of my team, and we believe in treating everyone with respect, dignity, and equality—both in our kitchen and with our guests.’

‘We welcome everyone to our restaurant, and we expect the same level of respect and decency toward our staff. Discriminatory behaviour has no place in our establishment, and it will not be tolerated.’

‘Let’s continue to create an inclusive and positive environment for all.’

Over the past 18 hours, Transport Malta, Infrastructure Malta, and the Civil Protection Department worked together to remove an overturned trailer on Triq il-Kunsill tal-Ewropa, heading towards the airport. The road is now open to traffic.

Due to a significant diesel spill from the trailer, IM and CPD carried out cleaning and roadworks to ensure public safety. Despite these efforts, we kindly ask everyone to proceed with caution in the area.

Transport Malta thanks all officials involved in the coordinated efforts to secure the road after an accident that could have had serious consequences.
