Ġnien Rousset in Ħal Kirkop is set for a major transformation into a larger, greener open space through a €400,000 investment by the Public Works Department. This project will enhance the existing garden by preserving its mature trees while introducing additional greenery to provide more natural shade.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, highlighted that the revamped garden will serve as a communal space for both seniors and youth to enjoy. He emphasised that this initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of creating more urban open spaces across Malta’s towns and villages.

Ħal Kirkop Mayor, Matthew Agius Zammit, expressed gratitude for the department’s efforts, noting the garden’s significance for the local community. Surrounded by the Ħal Kirkop Football Nursery and the San Benedittu Secondary School, the site will be transformed from an underutilised area into a vibrant green space that reflects the character of the locality.

Named after a village in France’s Aix-en-Provence region, Ġnien Rousset holds cultural value for Ħal Kirkop residents. Its regeneration has long been a community aspiration, now set to become reality.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Public Works Department and the former Local Council to facilitate the project, ensuring the realisation of this long-awaited green space for the residents.
