Over 50,000 people took part in the Valletta New Year celebrations

Over 50,000 people welcomed the New Year from Valletta during the national celebrations that were also broadcasted live on national television.

These successful and very popular celebrations happened yesterday, in St. George’s Square after a two-year absence.

Kurt Calleja and Band opened the event followed by The Brass House Unit led by Kevin Abela. This show included some of the most renowned local artists such as, Kevin Paul, Drakard, Brooke, Jasmine, Amanda Marie, Gloriana Arpa Belli, Ludwig Galea, Owen Luellen, Ozzy Lino, Pawlu Borg Bonaci and Tiziana Calleja.

DJ Debrii and DJ Drey also entertained the crowd in what was one of the biggest parties of 2022.

This event was organised by G7 Events with the support of the Valletta Cultural Agency.

These celebrations were hosted by Ron Briffa, Taryn Mamo Cefai, Claire Agius Ordway, and Clint Bajada.

Man allegedly shot in face during an argument in Paola

Police are investigating a shooting, after an argument that took place this morning (10:30am) in a field close to the Addolorata cemetery (Vjal Santa Lucija, Paola).

TVMnews are reporting that the man was hit in the face after being shot by another man.

The victim, a 57 year-old man from Paola was taken to Mater Dei Hospital and was certified to have suffered serious injuries.

Police who arrived on the scene, were wearing bulletproof vests whilst Superintendent Keith Arnaud is also present.

A search for the alleged shooter resulted in two men of 66 and 30 years-old being arrested.

Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo has appointed a Magisterial Enquiry into the case, whilst police investigations are ongoing.

Former Pope Benedict XVI dies at the age of 95

Former Pope Benedict XVI has died at his Vatican residence, aged 95, almost a decade after he stood down from the role of Head of the Catholic Church.

He served as Pope for less than eight years until, and became the first Pope to resign since Gregory XII in 1415.

Benedict spent his final years within the walls of the Vatican where lately he has been suffering from ill health.

Born Joseph Ratzinger in Germany, at 78, became one of the oldest popes ever elected.

Maltese driver in danger of losing his life after car accident in Attard

A man has suffered serious injuries in a traffic accident early this morning, at around 0215hrs, in Triq Oliver Agius, Ħ’Attard.

From a preliminary investigation it emerged that a 27-year-old Attard resident, lost control of the Renault Clio and crashed into a wall. The reason for this accident is yet unknown.

A medical team provided assistance on the spot and an ambulance took the driver to Mater Dei Hospital for the necessary treatment. He was later certified with serious injuries and at risk of losing his life.

Police Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech was informed and appointed an inquiry while the Police investigations are still ongoing.
