Over 3,600 Contraventions for Drivers Using Their Phones in 2023, Police Report
Sep 25 2023 Share

The Malta Police Force has dished out over 3,600 contravention tickets to drivers caught using their phones while driving and those not in complete control of their vehicles.

This action comes as a stark reminder of the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.

The announcement was made at the conclusion of this year’s Roadpol – European Roads Policing Network Safety Days campaign, underlining the commitment of Maltese law enforcement to promoting safe driving practices.

During the Roadpol campaign, the Malta Police Force tirelessly worked to enforce road safety standards, sending a clear message to motorists about the consequences of negligent behaviour behind the wheel.

The staggering number of contravention tickets issued reflects the gravity of the issue and the need for drivers to prioritise road safety.

The police’s call for drivers to remain focused on the road and obey traffic rules serves as a vital reminder that responsible driving is not just a personal obligation but a collective effort to ensure safer roads for everyone.

Stay safe out there!

Reboot of ‘The Office’ In Talks As Writers Strike Agreement Reached

Sep 25 2023 Share

Now that the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), news of a reboot of fan favourite series ‘The Office’ has surfaced and it is driving lovers of the show wild.

Months of strikes calling for better pay and working conditions for writers and actors, Hollywood came to its knees with thousands of productions brought to a halt as a result. That meant that production on beloved shows hung by a thread. With the WGA and AMPTP revealing that a ‘tentative agreement’ had been reached over the weekend, films and TV series may no longer hang in the balance and that means The Office Reboot may now be in motion.

“We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional – with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership,” the WGA wrote in a statement.

With a wave of productions and announcements slated for the next few months, the producer of Steve Carrell’s ‘The Office’ reboot Greg Daniels may jump right into it as more and more films and series regain traction.

What movie or series are you looking forward to this year?

This year’s ALS Malta annual telethon ‘Il-Mirakli Jsiru’ on the 24th of September proved to be yet another success, with a grand total of €1,451,867 collected.

The sum exceeds the previous year’s total, with this year’s campaign focused on opening the DAR Bjorn Respite, a respite home for neurological patients who need temporary care.

Featuring the current patients residing in the presently open DAR Bjorn in Qormi and Zebbug, the campaign shone a light on the good the homes are doing and the need for the Respite home. Caring for people with such conditions requires 24 hour care and specialised equipment – things that ALS Malta offers all its patients.

During the event, a number of special guests were also present, with Malta Daily presenting ALS Malta with a national team football shirt for auctioning, signed by international singer-songwriter Tom Grennan.

At the end of the event, ALS Malta expressed their gratitude for the public’s generosity.

Well done ALS Malta!
